⭕ 3.05 Chantilly today (Prix du Jockey Club) Stats preview in Friday’s Daqman.
Third, fourth, fifth and sixth in the French 2,000 Guineas meet again in the French Derby today.
The third colt home, Camille Pissarro, has the same sire and dam’s sire as Henri Matisse, who won the Longchamp race but will remain at a mile at Royal Ascot.
It poses the question today whether Camille Pissarro will stay, though Ryan Moore can take him the shortest way round from stall 1.
This is 1m 2f and the fourth horse, Luther, is a Frankel who has bags of stamina on the dam’s side. He tried to use it from the front at Longchamp, and they broke the track record!
His jockey today? Kieran Shoemark! He has a potential third-time-lucky redemption day after losing the English 2,000 Guineas with too late a run on Field Of Gold and the French 1,000 Guineas when She’s Perfect was demoted in the Stewards room.
The Aga Khan colours are carried by Ridari, a head back in fifth at Longchamp (clocking a fast finish) and also with a good chance on breeding.
Juddmonte’s colours are on Detain, who was sixth at Longchamp and is neck and neck with Luther, who finished a length down (not clear run) when they met in a pipe-opener at Chelmsford in April.
The difference is that the well-drawn Detain is related to a Chester Vase winner and a St Leger runner-up. Christophe Soumillon has won the race four times.
SUPERMODEL LOOKING GOOD
⭕ 5.00 Nottingham The three-year-olds, with Jowddah and Supermodel getting up to a stone and a half, should surely be good enough to beat the mares and the filly enigma of the race, Treasure.
It’s a handicap and the lingering hopes for the royal grey seem crushed by her 10st 4lb burden.
Though Jowddah looks progressive, she has been raised only 3lb for back-to-back success, and is not much better than evens this morning. I preferred what could prove to be the value, 5.9 Supermodel.
⭕ 5.15 Chelmsford The tongue-tie is back on Thunder Blue and David Egan, currently riding like a genius, is on course-winner Fantasy Master.
Both are well drawn but the question is whether they can stay the 7f. Physique can and he drops down a grade from a good run at Newmarket. Betdaq Betting Exchange 8.5.
Documenting can, too, and he’s down in the weights, Springtime winner on this AW track but aged 12 now.
Keep an eye – and risk a pound – on 13.0 offer Sheriff’s Court, a French winner for Andre Fabre on a nice opening mark for Sir Mark Prescott, still capable of lighting the fuse on a sequence horse.
⭕ 5.30 Nottingham Newmarket trainer Terry Kent is showing a 43% strike rate this year, rising to 60% in 3-5 for his last three days at the races.
