DAQMAN 252 POINTS UP ON PRICEWISE AFTER 25-1 STRIKE: When The Cob went a long-looking nine lengths clear at Doncaster yesterday, Daqman went a massive 252 points clear of Pricewise of the Racing Post to 10-point stakes in their value challenge. Betdaq Super Saturdays are Daqman’s winningmost days.

HIS BIG-RACE PROFIT FOR THE SEASON IS NOW 693 POINTS: The Cob (WON 25-1) took Daqman into a 22-12 lead over Pricewise, counting his win-and-place wager on BETDAQ as two separate bets. Overall the score is 693.75 points profit for Daqman and 441.08 for Pricewise.

THIS COULD BE A GRAND KINGMAKER

⭕ 1.15 Naas (Limestone Lad Hurdle) Here’s a rarity. After the Shishkin ‘walk over’ yesterday, this is a Graded race that isn’t a one-horse exercise gallop or a handicap and has potential for several outcomes.

More important, you can see horses being competitive, and assess them for the future: if they’re capable of the heights of Cheltenham and Punchestown.

Last year’s winner off 148 was completing a hat-trick but she finished 21 lengths adrift of Honeysuckle in the Mares Hurdle.

148 (159) BACHASSON The 148-rated this time around is Bachasson. I’ve reassessed them all off a level 12st, and Willie Mullins grey comes out on top by a pound.

Bachasson was beaten into sixth in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham in March but went for quick consolation in the same month and won 12 lengths at Clonmel.

He made all there on his return (2m 4f chase) and followed up by leading throughout in the small-field Punchestown Hurdle (2m 4f) on the last day of the old year.

The Clonmel Oil strike in November took his chase rating up to 160, within a pound of his mark when he ran in the Gold Cup of 2018. The handicapper is saying: this horse is not deteriorating; he’s as good as ever.

But that leaves his 148 rating over hurdles with a lot of catching up to do, and it’s hard to fancy him doing that today, dropped back to 2m. Bachasson hasn’t raced over the minimum since the autumn of 2015, and his Cheltenham entry is the Stayers Hurdle.

154 (158) BEACON EDGE A shorter price ante-post for the Stayers Hurdle after back-to-back wins, one of them Grade 3, in the autumn over 2m 3f plus, having been beaten twice at the minimum last Spring. But gives 7lb to Bachasson today.

Trainer Noel Meade is in good form but (yes, there’s another ’but’) Beacon Edge is reappearing after a ‘non-operative colic issue’ which ruled him out of the Christmas big races following a close contest, third at less than a length, with Honeysuckle in the Hattons Grace.

140 (151) WINSTON C Tongue-tied for first run back on these islands after 500 days off since scoring in America for Jonathan Sheppard.

Hurdles hat-trick winner for Harry Fry in 2019 over 2m at lower levels (Wincanton, Sandown and Kelso).

143 (147) GRAND ROI At five, he’s half Bachasson’s age and showed his inexperience when making mistakes and finishing third to easy winner Beacon Edge at Galway (2m 4f plus) in October.

Much more polished, though dropped back to the faster-jumping required for the minimum 2m and upped to a Grade 2, winning at Limerick at the end of December. So, in fact, he’s dropped a grade today and has a pace to aim at.

139 (146) POSEIDON A seven-year-old with a future in handicaps, judged on his Grade B success at Killarney on soft-heavy last summer after runner-up at the Galway Festival.

Verdict: Bachasson will probably try to make all and could succeed, getting weight from sick-at-Christmas Beacon Edge, close together (2.3 and 2.58 respectively ) on the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE this morning.

But I shall bet on potential over known form with the youngster Grand Roi tempting at 7.9. If he’s come on again as much as he did last time, he could be the value.

WEATHER WOES

⚠️ Catterick’s card today was frozen off – meaning no jumps racing in the UK for the third time this week.

Prospects are not looking too great for the early part of next week either on both sides of the Irish Sea.

Sedgefield on Monday is subject to an inspection later today, Limerick (Tuesday) will inspect on Monday and Warwick on Wednesday is already in doubt with standing water on the track and they will also take a look on Monday morning.

COVENTRY FORM IN A CLASS 5 !

⭕ 3.10 Wolverhampton The bar doesn’t go higher than class 5 at Wolverhampton this afternoon but I would be astonished if Mutarabes doesn’t prove himself much better than that level.

We’ve only got one race to go on with him but in the context of this race I take that as a positive as his rivals with experience don’t appear to be progressing. Especially so Winnetka who is now a maiden after 13 starts.

Mutarabes made his debut at Newmarket in June finishing seventh to Bright Devil and was only beaten six and a half lengths. The notable aspect from that race was that subsequent Coventry Stakes winner Nando Parrado was fifth just a length and a half in front of Mutarabes. It would be crazy to take that form too literally but it’s safe to say that Mutarabes probably doesn’t even need to improve much on second start to land this.

The downside is that this is his first start after a lengthy break and also his all-weather debut but we are compensated by the fact the price is around 2.06 and not 1.6. So hence napped.
