15.0 YORKS NATIONAL OUTSIDER: There are big races surviving the weather across the cards – and across the Irish Sea today – with the North Yorkshire Grand National at Catterick and the Kinloch Brae Chase at Thurles. Daqman naps at Catterick, where he picks a 15.0 outsider in the ‘National.’

TOMORROW: There’s snow mentioned in the forecasts for Huntingdon and Lingfield tomorrow, but Daqman is sure to have something readable for punters who want to be in the know. SATURDAY: Daqman’s back in competition with Pricewise, bidding for a bull’s-eye bet in one of the big races.

DON ONE FOR LOVERS OF DAQ MULTIPLES

2.10 Thurles (Ladbroke Ireland Kinloch Brae Chase) Last year’s winner, Don Cossack, was only third in the Ryanair at the festival, and has yet to do well at Cheltenham, but he’s back here now on the Gold Cup trail, figuring around 5-1 for March.

He’d won eight races, interrupted by that Ryanair defeat, until he fell in the King George on Boxing Day, when likely to have at least troubled, if not beaten, the winner, Cue Card.

‘Straight to Cheltenham’ was the verdict after the unlucky exit, but Gordon Elliott has since thought that a confidence booster here would be no bad thing.

In doing so, he has scared off the main opposition, though the giant Wounded Warrior was an improver – officially by exactly a stone – in five races, from his first novice win to his being runner-up in the Punchestown Champion Novice.

In between he ran third to Don Poli in the RSA at Cheltenham, so a fascinating yardstick to measure Don Cossack by today. But not seen since that day because of muscular problems.

2.40 Thurles This mares-novices’ chase last season went to Vroum Vroum Mag, now 9.6 on BETDAQ to win the World Hurdle.

Today’s favourite, Bitofapuzzle, also has a Cheltenham date, the Mares’ Hurdle, but as an English defender not an Irish raider.

Unfortunately, Don Cossack and Bitofapuzzle are too short this morning for individual bets, so we shall confine them to Daq Multiples, where they can supple a bit of leverage.

Wounded Warrior in the Kinloch Brae pays 9 for 10 a place on BETDAQ (two chances), a better price than Don Cossack, and I’ll take that, hoping to pay for the Multiples.

TOM SCU TO NAIL’M IN YORKSHIRE NATIONAL

12.50 Catterick Very hard to make a living today but Pemba should more than double our money for a banker in the opener here (1.62 this morning) ,and launch our short-odds treble in the Daq Multiples.

2.50 Catterick (North Yorkshire Grand National) Stable in form for the race is Brian Ellison, whose Jac The Legend, has won over 3m 3f over hurdles so should get today’s trip well, as a chaser.

Venetia Williams is also doing good, and Gorgehous Lliege is back below the rating that won him the Southern National 14 months ago, but his form since has been dire.

Lackamon is placed in these handicaps too often for his own good. He could do with shedding a few pounds at his age. There have been no winners of this carrying above 11st.

One who might today is Alto des Mottes, only six and still learning but his dam was sister to a 4m+ winner, and the stamina in his DNA was evident when he scored in heavy ground at Newcastle last month.

Barton Gift wins only in the early part of the year and is back to his winning mark, despite a bold bid for the Lincolnshire National on Boxing Day. Now well in with the winner, West Of The Edge. Nico De Boinville booked and has won on him before.

He will have to fight for the lead with Scotswell, who made all in this race last year, after being runner-up in the Scottish Borders National at Kelso. No show since, and no money for him this morning at 25.0 on BETDAQ.

Nail ‘M’ beat all bar Welsh National fifth Woodford County at Exeter last month, and should get involved in first-time visor with Tom Scu up.

Valleyofmilan needs goodish ground. It’s more than two years since Pete The Feat won a race but his 10lb claimer helped him go close on the last day.

A 7lb claimer brings Silver Tassle into it, but he fluffed his chance when seeming the winner at Ayr on the last day. Delgany Demon has never won a chase. Blinkers worked for Pinerolo just the once.

Beeves was a close second when tried in a visor in the BETDAQ.com 2% Commission race at Doncaster in December.

VERDICT: Harriet Graham has trained only one chase winner in two years, Scotswell in this when the money was down, and she will have tried to ready him for a repeat. Watch the BETDAQ market.

Alto Des Mottes has been hit by the handicapper and is only six but he landed a gamble on the last day and the runner-up has won since. Jac The Legend is also a tad inexperienced but seven-year-olds have won two of the last three.

There was a big punt on BETDAQ this morning, Nail ‘M’ in to 5.1. The best long-shot could be Alto des Mottes (15.0 offers), who is bred to go round again!

ORDER IN: 1 Nail ‘M’, 2 Alto Des Mottes, 3 Jac The Legend, 4 Barton Gift
