YES! SEVEN BANKERS ON THE TROT: Daqman made it seven successive winning bankers yesterday, with Sarsted (WON 3-10). The maximum-stakes seven have been:

WON 4-6 BRAVO ZOLO
WON 1-4 GERMANY CALLING
WON 4-11 HIGH SECRET
WON 4-6 CONVEY
WON 5-6 SOUTHFIELD THEATRE
WON 8-13 SHAKOPEE
WON 3-10 SARSTED

SO THAT’S A HAT-TRICK OF NAPS: Sarsted followed Geordan Murphy (WON 9-4) and Shakopee to make it a hat-trick of naps, 10 out of 14 altogether, in the following sequence over the last fortnight: 11111412313111.

BRIDGE THE LONE RAIDER AT BRIGHTON

The tide’s in at Brighton. All over the racecourse. Not many – horses or punters – can cope with this track at the best of times, never mind when it’s under water. It’s my worst racecourse for betting purposes.

And those expecting to see Ryan Moore v Richard Hughes in the latest heat of a thrilling jockeys’ title finish are much mistaken. Only Hughsie rides today and he’s swerved the heavy ground at the seaside track in favour of six rides at Wolverhampton tonight.

Richard Hannon, slowly but surely stifling John Gosden at the top of the trainers’ table, is also well represented – four tonight – at Wolver but, as leading trainer, percentage-wise, at Brighton, he has a lone raider in Burma Bridge (3.10).

Hannon has a 44% record with two-year-olds at Brighton, and Burma Bridge was 13 lengths clear of the remainder when runner-up on the course on soft ground recently, staying on as if today’s extra furlong would help.

On the same day, with the ground turned heavy in the rain, Improvized (3.40) overtook Stybba in the mud for a mile handicap identical to this one today.

Though Stybba is a few pounds better off, Improvized seems to be the one with the will to win. She goes for a hat-trick and her third Brighton course win here.

Yet another returning from the same card, winner of another mile handicap, is Byrd In Hand (4.10). He’s on a four-timer today but he’s often the bridesmaid – five seconds out of six races at one stage – and has had his win. There’s also the question of a quarter-mile step up in trip here.

Market leader on BETDAQ early mouse was Salient but he’s also had his win and is 10-years-old now; hardly nailed on for a repeat.

I think it’s a race for a turn-up (last three years have thrown up winners at 10-1, 12-1 and 20-1) and that turn-up might be Uganda Glory.

George Baker sent out a winner from Manton yesterday and Uganda Glory hasn’t had her conditions – so has dropped in the handicap – since making all on the course (soft) just over a year ago.

HUGHES GETS RED FOR GO AT WOLVER

Head down, Hughsie! That famous Richard Hughes’ drive will be needed on the Tapeta tonight if he is to increase his lead over Ryan Moore.

Taking out Red Refraction (7.30) and Gimme Five (8.30), four of his mounts have raced 20 times for just one success, and three of them are maidens, one in a maiden race, one in a nursery and one in an all-aged handicap.

But two events on this Wolver card purport to have some quality about them, one of the nurseries (6.00) and a class-3 handicap over 7f (7.30). Only quality racing contains the consistency of performance you need to have a bet.

Hughes on Geological (6.00) beats Billyoakes (and therefore Best Endeavour) on Kempton and Bath collateral form, though that is mixing Polytrack and turf (firm).

Escalating drops from the Pattern and set a strong gallop at Kempton, returning from a break since scoring on the soft at Ascot in the Spring. At about that time Don Sigfedo was running well on today’s course.

But he has a tendency to be slowly into his stride, and you can expect Subversive to test them from the front here, so slouches will get found out.

Thanks to an open BETDAQ market early mouse, I was able to take 8.4 Escalating and 6.0 Geological

The market for the other-class 3 was quite different this morning, with Dutch Art Dealer clear of his rivals in the betting on the back of an easy success – in first-time cheekpieces – at Kempton six weeks back.

But Deauville Prince, Ifwecan, Maverik, Red Refraction (on AW) and Secret Talent all have form for setting the pace or keen-going, so the favourite won’t get all his own way, and looks vulnerable.

Hughie Morrison is in magic form (three out of six) and he might be able to produce Secret Talent from a long absence. He won seven lengths last time he came back from such a holiday, and his form includes a run in the Britannia at Royal Ascot. Red Refraction (11.5) and Secret Talent (17.5) look too big.

The defection of the sequence horse Jolie Blonde appears to leave the way clear for Gimme Five (8.30), who has been in fine form over hurdles recently. I took 2.7 on BETDAQ.
