ABCDEFX FOREVER TOGETHER

Turned around Cheshire Oaks defeat by Magic Wand when winning the Epsom Oaks (Bye Bye Baby third, Magic Wand fourth) but that was on soft ground and well beaten by an older filly on firm in the Curragh Pretty Polly Stakes dropped back to 10 furlongs (Bye Baby Baby fourth)

ABCDEFX MAGIC WAND

Made Epsom Oaks soft-ground form look all wrong with 10-lengths revenge on the runner-up, Wild Illusion, in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot, albeit receiving 3lb.

ABF ROMIYNA

Easy start to her career over the full 1m 4f on firm at Gowran Park in May but only sixth in the Naas Oaks trial.

ACDEFX BYE BYE BABY

Blue Wind winner on deep ground at the Curragh in May but well behind in the Epsom Oaks and in the Curragh Pretty Polly.

ADFX SEA OF CLASS

Ready winner of two Listeds at Newbury (good to firm). Held in highest regard and step up in trip ‘no problem’, says trainer.

F MARY TUDOR

Twice beaten by Magical as a juvenile. Listed winner (hooded first time in April) and runner-up (Tissiak and Romiyna behind), giving weight to the winner of 1m 2f Naas Oaks Trial.

F TISSIAK

Fifth in the Naas Oaks trial after breaking her maiden at the Curragh in June (1m 2f firm). Well regarded and ‘looked after’ by her trainer.

DANCER TO SHOW CLASS IN NURSERY

4.20 Leicester Mark Johnston has had just two goes at this nursery, both right up there in the crow’s nest of the handicap, with 9st 7lb and 10st. Both won.

He tries for a hat-trick today in similar circumstances, Delft Dancer carrying 9st 7lb, with the same jockey booked, Silvestre de Sousa who, in fact, has won the last three runnings of this all told.

One of them was for Ed Dunlop, who puts Jim Crowley up on his runner today, the well-drawn Arctic Spirit, who should also be suited by this step up from sprinting.

Coincidentally, it was Crowley who won on Delft Dancer at Nottingham on the first of May, saying she was a battler who travelled well, ‘a nice filly.’ I took 4.0 on BETDAQ early mouse.

FRANKIE HAS THE BEST HAND TO MELD

7.15 Leopardstown (Meld Stakes) This nine-furlong Group 3 has been a Dermot Weld (4 wins) and Jim Bolger (3) preserve, since Aidan O’Brien won it in 2008.

O’Brien, who suffered a reverse when the odds-on Deauville was second last season, chose Deauville again and Curly from eight possibles for today.

Turret Rocks for Bolger is 10lb behind Deauville in the ratings but this is surely a big chance for Hazapour (Weld) to hold up the prestige of the English Derby.

He was fifth at Epsom, after staking his claim in the Derrinstown, the Leopardstown Derby Trial but over only 1m 2f.

Hazapour beat Irish Derby fourth, Delano Roosevelt, that day, and has Frankie Dettori flying over just for the ride.

Deauville is only 1-12 since his two-year-old days and would be a threat here only if allowed a soft lead. So it’s over to you, Frankie! 1.87 early mouse on BETDAQ

HE’S A WINNER TO THE MANOR BORN

8.00 Doncaster Three-year-olds were first and third with just the two runners in this last year. Beverley winner Georgian Manor is the lone second-season animal this time around.

Forget his defeat as favourite for a class 2 at the July Meeting when he was impeded and dropped back to the rear.

The older horses with higher ratings today have to give between 8lb and a stone in weight, which puts him well clear, despite 5.2 offers on BETDAQ

8.10 Epsom The writing’s on the wall! Banksy’s Art (BETDAQ 4.4) is working well after being gelded and is now expected to have his mind on the job (or rather, not on the job, depending upon your vernacular).
