SUPERNAP AT SALISBURY SPOTTED BIGGER THAN 2-1 ON BETDAQ: Daqman checks out the big-race scene at York next week and Deauville on Sunday, before a BETDAQ-value supernap at Salisbury, better than 2-1 in the orange this morning.

HIGH STAKES FOR RACING IN THE PATTERN AT LEOPARDSTOWN: Tonight at Leopardstown there’s the Group-3 mile Desmond Stakes and the Listed Vinnie Roe stayers’ race. Best meeting of the day gets a high-stakes response from Daqman.

DRIVER’S OUT OF THE INTERNATIONAL

MISHRIFF REMATCH WITH ST MARK’S Pyledriver will miss next week’s Wednesday York feature, the Juddmonte International, still not recovered from a muscle injury which kept him out of the King George.

Palace Pier and Poetic Flare also swerve York for an earlier clash in Sunday’s Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville.

A year ago, Palace Pier won the Deauville race from Alpine Star and Circus Maximus on heavy ground.

In Palace Pier’s absence at Goodwood (blood disorder), Alcohol Free beat the 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes winner Poetic Flare in the Sussex Stakes.

Pier’s defection from the Juddmonte leaves his stablemate Mishriff in a rematch with St Mark’s Basilica, who beat him into third in the Coral-Eclipse.

EBOR MONEY IS FOR 15.0 MULDOON: There has been Irish money for the Ebor Handicap on Saturday week, with bookmakers cutting M C Muldoon, still 15.0 in the BETDAQ Sportsbook.

M C Muldoon is trained by Willie Mullins, who won the York race with Sesenta in 2009. Since then Ireland’s raiders have added Dirar (2010, Gordon Elliott), Mutual Regard (2014, Johnny Murtagh), Heartbreak City (2016, Tony Martin) and Mustajeer (2019, Ger Lyons).

M C Muldoon, who ran in the Great Voltigeur at York three years back, is mainly a novice hurdler these days but just missed out on the Ascot Stakes at the royal meeting, failing by only a short head.

MEGALLAN REPRESENTS DERBY FORM

⚠️ HEADS UP Beverley was the place to bet yesterday, with only one winner bigger than 5-1 SP and four favourites home for all money.

Contrast with Gowran Park’s whitewash of the favourites, with winners at 80-1, 33-1, 16-1 and 10-1 (twice). Favourites all failed at Yarmouth.

⭕ 2.00 Beverley In sectional-timing figures published yesterday by anorak supreme Simon Rowlands, Paul Mulrennan is leading jockey in races of less than a mile.

Beverley is one of Paul’s top four tracks for winners, and Michael and David Easterby (Mick’s rebrand) had one runner, one winner, at yesterday’s Beverley meeting.

To say that the Easterby-Mulrennan hopeful here, On The Hook, hasn’t been fancied so far is an understatement: he has started 40-1 and 66-1 (twice) in his three appearances.

A market move today in his first handicap would be doubly significant. Morning 10.0 on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE .

⭕ 3.45 Beverley Roger Charlton has runners on his local track at Salisbury today but sends Dreambird (BETDAQ 7.5) and his apprentice find Thomas Greatrex (one ride) to Yorkshire, with the 2m trip expected to suit on breeding.

⭕ 4.05 Salisbury (Sovereign Stakes) Megallan should find this Group 3 slightly easier than his second, taking on Irish Derby winner Hurricane Lane, in the Dante, and his (bumped and drawn wide) French Derby demise behind St Mark’s Basilica.

Of the other three-year-olds, King Vega could improve for being gelded. Sir Busker is living off his third to Palace Pier in the Queen Anne but has precious little else on his CV, though now five.

Solid Stone has been consistent in Listed company, while Duke Of Hazzard hasn’t won for nearly two years. Magellan was big value 3.15 this morning on BETDAQ.

MY BELIEF IN MURTAGH’S IMPROVER

⭕ 6.30 Leopardstown (Desmond Stakes) Three-year-olds are currently 4-5 up in this Group 3, with Aidan O’Brien trying to follow up last year’s success in similar fashion.

The Ballydoyle winner in 2020, Royal Dornoch, was coming back after a break, and Military Style has had an even longer absence: 333 days.

After beating Van Gogh in the Tyros Stakes at this venue, when he was number seven of eight consecutive Aidan O’Brien winners in that race, he today faces a filly of Johnny Murtagh’s, Create Belief, who hadn’t even seen a racecourse at the time of the Tyros, but has made up for it this year.

She completed a handicap double with a smooth strike at Royal Ascot; ‘not too many anxious moments,’ said Johnny .

The placed horses could have done better since but she was five lengths clear at the line, giving 11lb to the runner-up.

Create Belief has done her winning on the soft but her sire’s progeny has a 22% strike rate on firm and good to firm, so ground is hardly likely to be a factor either way.

Real Appeal brings an early-summer Group-3 victory to the table over 7f here (hung badly left) but has to give 13lb to Create Belief.

⭕ 6.52 Chelmsford Crimson Sand is 2-2 on AW and value at better than 2-1 as I write.

I’M IGNORING FORM INTERPRETATION

⭕ 7.00 Leopardstown (Vinnie Roe Stakes) Interpretation was expected to reappear in the Great Voltigeur next week on way to the Doncaster St Leger.

But today is the hat trick bid for the Galileo colt out of a half-sister to the Arc winner, Dalakhani.

Interpretation won her maiden (1m 2f at the Curragh) in June but stepped up quickly to 1m 5f here at Leopardstown and ran clear of Sacred Rhyme, giving 5lb and winning two-and-a-half lengths.-

There is a form connection. Also receiving 5lb, Sacred Rhyme had earlier been (never nearer) three and threequarter lengths behind Fernando Vichi in the Nijinsky Listed at Leopardstown (1m 4f).

Fernando Vichi has the edge on that and, with better lucky, might have been closer in Hurricane Lane’s Irish Derby, but was a 50-1 no-hoper that day, a long way adrift of Aidan O’Brien’s Wordsworth, who was rated at the time just 3lb behind what Interpretation has achieved since. I’ll always go for the improver.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
