ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD: Daqman, who attacked the bookies’ jockey-title market as ‘rubbish’ when Silvestre De Sousa went 1-4 at the time of Ryan Moore’s injury, today has a go at their Ayr Gold Cup betting, and urges punters to ‘wait and see.’

TON-UP JIM UPSTAGING THEM: Meanwhile, Jim Crowley reached his 100 for the season yesterday, appropriately winning with Daqman’s tip, Upstaging (WON 2-1) at Brighton. Says Daqman: ‘He’s doing a Leicester; holding on in the Premier League’

TODAY’S RACING: Listowel’s Harvest Festival continues where the feature is the Liam Healy Memorial Lartigue Handicap Hurdle and Daqman thinks he has found a good thing.

WAIT-AND-SEE AYR GOLD CUP ADVICE

Wait for it! Always best to hang on for the BETDAQ betting on a big race, rather than lose your wallet ante-post.

Saturday’s Ayr Gold Cup has already seen Dancing Star removed from the market, making mugs of early-day punters.

And the new favourite, Growl, like Dancing Star also entered in the Group-1 sprint on Champions Day, is one of eight Richard Fahey possibles, although I can see most of them heading for the Silver consolation race, as lightweights in the main event.

Seven-year-olds are just 1-36 since 1980, which nails another at the front of the market, Nameitwhatyoulike (would carry a penalty).

Next in the betting, depending on whose book you are checking out, are Intisaab (ran on Sunday), Brando (set 9st 10lb), Certificate (penalty), Raucous (a 3yo with the stopper of 9st 4lb) and Hoof It (aged nine), all with black marks or question-marks against them.

On trainers’ records in the race, it would have to be David Nicholls with five wins (Orions Bow and Kimberella stand their ground), Kevin Ryan with three (Swift Approval, Teruntum Star, Flaming Spear all nicely placed in the handicap, held up by stablemate Brando).. and that man Fahey.

Only one favourite has won since 1996 – just the two since 1980! – but not many in 20 years have been rank outsiders: 10-1 to 16-1 are the SPs of 12 winners in that time.

A weight of 8st 10lb to 9st 4lb trapped six of the last eight winners and, what makes early picks impossible, nine winners from the last 14 came out of double-figure stalls. Hopefully, I’ll put you right on Saturday.

LISTOWEL: FOX TO GET THROUGH THE SWAMP

2.25 Listowel The form of Ensign’s debut fifth gained a significant boost at Leopardstown on Saturday when Landfall went on to take a Group 3 at the expense of the highly touted Douglas MacArthur. The second that day Exemplar has also gone on to win his maiden and this looks an ideal opportunity for this son of Invincible Spirit. His classy half-brother handled a cut in the ground so he should have a good chance of coping with the heavy conditions.

4.55 Listowel Swamp Fox has been in tremendous form on the flat of late, winning his maiden in Ballinrobe before taking the valuable amateur handicap at the Galway Festival. He goes in search of another big pot today, this time over hurdles where he is still feasibly treated off a mark of 118. He will have no issues with the ground and has shown ability to thrive in a big field. At an early mark of 5.7 on BETDAQ, he will do for me.

THIRSK: AIRTON TO RETURN TO THE WINNING TRAIL

4.00 Thirsk Airton was a winner on good to firm ground at Doncaster and returns to his favoured surface for the first time since today. Trainer James Bethell has his string in good nick and has formed a good partnership with PJ McDonald, the pair have a LSP of +11.50.

YARMOUTH: ISAAC’S SHIP READY TO COME IN

4.50 Yarmouth Port Isaac ran with huge credit on debut going down by only a head while pulling 5 lengths clear of third and he can be expected to take a step forward today. The drop back in trip shouldn’t be an issue for this son of Sakhee’s Secret and he can provide Marcus Tregoning with his 10th winner of the season.

DAQMAN BETS:
BET 9pts win ENSIGN (2.25 Listowel)
BET 5pts win AIRTON (4.00 Thirsk)
BET 8pts win PORT ISAAC (4.50 Yarmouth)
BET 10pts win (NAP) SWAMP FOX (4.55 Listowel)
