CLASSIC TRIALS IN FRANCE TODAY: Daqman, who landed a 20-point supernap at Longchamp on Sunday (Map Of Stars WON 4-9) is back in France today, checking out the two Classic trials at Deauville. Barefoot Warrior (3rd 5-4)at Redcar was his third successful lay in a row yesterday.

SCOTTISH NATIONAL NEXT: Last week’s Daqman Grand National preview reduced the then huge field to 13, starting the list with the subsequent 33-1 winner and 33-1 third. Now look out for his early treatment of the Scottish National probables.

CHEEK OF ARABIE RAIDER

⭕ 2.05 Deauville (Prix Djebel) The Aidan O’Brien doppelganger at Chantilly, Andre Fabre, has been champion trainer of France 30 times!

One of his French Derby winners is currently a huge influence on the thoroughbred scene: Lope De Vega (2010), grandson of the O’Brien 10-furlong superstar, Eclipse and Champion Stakes winner, Giant’s Causeway.

The 79-year-old Fabre hasn’t won the Arc since 2019 and the French 2,000 Guineas since 2020 but vows to go on.

Today he launches Better Together on their 1,000 Guineas trail in the Prix Imprudence but has nothing in the Djebel.

Two new kids on the block, Francis Graffard (29 wins) and Jerome Reynier (24), are setting the pace in the trainers’ table.

They have two of the world’s best riders in the Djebel, Christophe Soumillon on Listed winner already this year, Woodshauna (holds Rosapenna), and Oisin Murphy on Le Roi Rene.

A good effort from Silius, who goes for a hat-trick (beat Kaadi at Cagnes in February), would boost Better Together, who beat her easily on the Deauville Polytrack course in November.

But the Djebel form horse is Karl Burke’s raider, Arabie (Jim Crowley), who backed up a Group 3 at Chantilly in June with success in the Robert Papin before 4th in the Morny behind Irish Guineas hope, Whistlejacket.

BETTER BEFORE DAYLIGHT

⭕ 3.15 Deauville (Prix Imprudence) Third in the Morny was Daylight, who then ran second in the Cheveley Park.

She has the edge on last year’s form over Fraise Des Bois (Jean-Claude Rouget), runner-up in the Calvados on today’s course.

But the pair of them – plus Kaadi – look well exposed against Better Together, who has already won twice at Deauville for veteran Fabre.

WEN YOU’VE GOT THE DRAW

⭕ 3.32 Pontefract Stalls 1, 2, 3 and 4 overall have won five times out of seven in this 5f handicap sprint. Not a winning favourite in sight.

Ventura Express (from the one stall) and Fahrenheit Seven (2) have already raced this year; Alzahir (5) and Intervention (10) have both won in the last three weeks.

Third in this race last year was Ben Haslam’s Wen Moon (3), who took the next race on the card – a furlong further – in 2023 and is back on that mark today. BETDAQ 7.6 this morning.

Fahrenheit Seven seldom runs a bad race and Connor Beasley has a rare ride for Lambourn raider Mark Usher: BETDAQ 4.8.

INVITORIO BIG FOR BURKE

⭕ 4.07 Pontefract The one stall is striking at 50% in this, and Lesley’s Boy has been able to win after a break before now.

The Richard Fahey yard has bagged four (in a row!) of the last eight runnings of this race.

Boy’s only bad run was when raised to a class-2 on soft ground on the July Course and had a bumping match at the start. BETDAQ 7.0 taken.

The morning market was wide open (7.0 the field) so I also took a bit of Invitorio (12.0 offers) in his first handicap, with Karl Burke hopefully celebrating success for Arabie in France.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
