LIVERPOOL TREBLE OF BIG FENCES: The National is not the only spectacle this week: the Topham and the Fox Hunters use the big fences on the first two days of Aintree. Today Daqman points up where the winners come from.

GRAND NATIONAL ABC TOMORROW: Every one of the 40 in the likely National line-up are checked out tomorrow in Daqman’s successful ABC Guide. Who will come out on top? Don’t miss it.

BE A CUNNING FOX HUNTER AT AINTREE

THURSDAY: Most punters duck the first race over the Grand National fences, the Fox Hunters on Thursday. But the cunning cash in on a spate of favourites.

Eight of the last 10 winners have been 5-2 to 11-2 SP. That locates the where to look. Where to bet is easier: BETDAQ offers are sure to give you Fox Hunter hounds a better run for your money.

Experienced horses aged 10, 11 and 12 have won eight out of nine, but the most important spot is a very useful amateur jockey.

The skills of names like Carberry, Waley-Cohen and Twiston-Davies appear on the recent roll of honour.

FRIDAY: Second day. The big fences are rebuilt. And they’re under orders for the Topham, a two-mile shorter Grand National.

Trainer to follow Nicky Henderson, who has completed a hat-trick at huge prices: 9-1, 10-1 and 14-1 at SP, and has Cocktails At Dawn off a mark similar to his last two winners.

SATURDAY: The big ’un. Third race over the National fences is the National itself, but wait for it..

Your best bet of the day is the Liverpool Stayers’ Hurdle. Every single winner has been 5-1 or less, and there has been some very heavy money changing hands here, with the likes of Mighty Man and Big Buck’s winning the races!

UNBUCKLE A TENTATIVE NAP AT LUDLOW

I’ve taken a look at both the flat and jumps today. It’s all middle of the road racing with some good meetings coming up at Aintree, Sandown, Newmarket and Punchestown. Although there are some competitive races today.

2.50 Ludlow This is the best race today. A very competitive field when you consider what’s starting on Thursday.

Generous Ransom, Toby Lerone, Alberello, Buck Mulligan and even Gone Too Far are the main protagonists and it’s possible to see any one of these winning.

It’s very hard to ignore the form of Generous Ransom though. While his runs this year wouldn’t give you much confidence, if you look back to when he last ran off this mark of 128 he won. In between he finished third behind Irish Cavalier at the Cheltenham Festival off 8lbs higher.

He always struck me as a horse that wanted a trip and he steps up to three miles for the second time today. This is an easier test that his last attempt on a slightly easier track. His class could carry him through.

3.00 Newton Abbot A small field assemble for this. A trappy sort of affair that you can really only discount one from, Rocky Bender.

Minellahalfcentury could possible pay a small compliment to Knock House ahead of Saturday’s Grand National, if the Channon horse makes the cut. He finished 6th behind him at Cheltenham and this looks like a good opportunity for the Nicholls horse. His last win came off 4lbs higher so he’s clearly on a decent mark.

3.25 Ludlow This is a relatively uninspiring Novice Hurdle. We’re unlikely to see too many coming from this but the favourite is incredibly frustrating.

Brise Vendeenne now sports Blinkers for the first time as Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson attempt to finally get his head in front. He’s been 2nd or 3rd on all bar one of his career runs so far and while I’m not saying he’s a Lay, he’s definitely not one to be backing.

Unbuckled has some decent form in the book with three wins to his credit. Although all his runs so far have been at two miles, the step up should suit as he stayed on strongest to win in Doncaster in December and last time out, he stayed on best again to take second at this track.

I won’t be advising full stakes for this one but he is the most reliable sort in a weak contest.

4.20 Pontefract Just the one on the level today. The ground is sure to be a big factor here and a horse with plenty of experience is advised.

Awake My Soul carries top weight for David O’Meara and Danny Tudhope but he’s been tasked with this before on Soft ground and won off a slightly lower mark.

While there are question marks over a few of these, there are several with chances but I’m taking Awake My Soul in an open looking contest.
