ST MARK’S BASILICA RETIRES TO STUD AS ONE OF THE BEST: Aidan O’Brien last night called time on the career of St Mark’s Basilica, describing him as ‘possibly the best we’ve had’. He goes to stud after winning the French Guineas and Derby, Coral-Eclipse and Irish Champion Stakes, in which he beat one of the Arc favourites, Tarnawa.

DAQMAN PROFILE: JAPANESE ACE UNDER ARC MICROSCOPE: Daqman reckons there are five aces in the Arc de Triomphe pack and, after Adayar yesterday, his second profile today is on Chrono Genesis, the Japanese mount of Oisin Murphy.

THE ARC WINNER’S DAUGHTER

🇫🇷 ARC UPDATE Both Adayar and Snowfall will be supplemented for the Arc tomorrow (£120,000 each), making a field of 16 after the first forfeit stage, including St Leger runner-up Mojo Star (Richard Hannon) and Teona (Roger Varian), who beat Snowfall in the Vermeille. Japan accepts with Deep Bond as well as today’s ace, Chrono Genesis.

CHRONO GENESIS 5yo gr m. Rating: 121. Six wins from 13 starts (2133101213121) for earnings of £7,748,075 (Sunday Racing Co – Takashi Saito – Oisin Murphy)

Stats: Japanese horses have finished second in the Arc four times with El Condor Pasa (1999), Nakayama Festa (2010) and Orfevre (2012, 2013).

Mares have won the Arc eight times in 13 years with Zarkava (2008), Danedream (2011), Solemia (2012), Treve (2013, 2014), Found (2016) and Enable (2017, 2018).

Breeding: By Bago (Nashwan) out of a Nureyev mare. Sire won the 2004 Arc de Triomphe and was third to Hurricane Run in 2005; dam related to Group-1 winners up to 1m 2f.

Style: Grey mare; she has rear run, waits midfield or in touch; best form coming with a turn of foot off the pace. Trainer Saito says: ‘She needs to relax early so won’t be there too soon.’ Jockey Oisin Murphy says:’ She has everything.’

Big-race form: WON four Grade 1 in Japan. Neck second to Mishriff (Sheema Classic in March, with Woodbine International winner, Walton Street, fourth); coming off a break; steady headway, bumped over a furlong out, rallying when carried right.

Going: Won only on firm and good.

Trainerform: Takashi is a name that can mean ‘prosperous’ and ‘ambitious’ and, at 39, Takashi Saito is both: he’s taken the two £1m Grade-1 Kinen races with Chrono Genesis at Hanshin.

Jockey: Oisin Murphy came to the attention of the Japanese when winning the 2019 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood on Deidre, and he has since won the Japan Cup on Suave Richard.

My contact tells me: ‘The Japanese listen to Murphy. He advised putting cheekpieces on Suave Richard to win the Japan Cup. Now he’s persuaded against a prep run for Chrono Genesis.’

LET IT BE

⭕ 4.20 Ayr I’m saving my only bet on the Ayr card to the last race of the day where Haveyoumissedme looks a little short in the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE market for me.

There’s no denying his current good form with him coming into this seeking a hat-trick but the statutory 6lb penalty for his short head win at Hamilton might just find him out. The handicapper raised him 4lb for that win so he his 2lb ‘wrong’ here on top of what looked a hefty enough rise in any case.

Waiting in the wings is Let Me Be, the only course and distance winner in the field, he is a six-time winner on the flat and should run his race – which usually consists of building up a healthy lead. The step back in trip from the 2m 1f at Ayr last time out should also help.

PRETTY SWEET ON HER CHANCES

⭕ 8.00 Wolverhampton Pretty Sweet is still very much on an upwards trajectory and looks interesting on handicap debut here in what doesn’t look a strong contest.

The George Boughey trained, Tom Marquand riddden runner has form of 221 so far – getting off the mark at Bath where she still ran green but beat the Andrew Balding trained Scampi quite easily and the pair finished 25 lengths clear in the four runner race!

It’s a tightly banded handicap and whilst 78 is a high enough starting point the key point for her is that she is highly likely to improve whereas most of her rivals are looking exposed off their current marks including the Richard Hannon trained Fierospeed who might need to drop a few pounds.

ROSE TO BEAT GREY

⭕ 8.30 Wolverhampton Aramis Grey is up another 3lb and has to shrug 10 stone around so might prove vulnerable – despite her remarkable consistency.

Annie Rose always runs well here (2 x course and distance wins) and I thought looked a little over-priced.

She didn’t get the rub of the green when fourth here last time but still ran well and I think she remains on a winning mark in this competitive finale.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
