CHAMPION HURDLE ONE-TWO AND SUPERNAP: Daqman landed a 20-point supernap on the first day of Cheltenham, backing up his Monday nap, DoyouknowwhatImean (won 1-1). He doubled the supernap with the one-two in the Champion Hurdle. Lossiemouth and Irish Point (w/p 2nd 8.1 taken on BETDAQ) were the first of his IMPROVER bets.

WON 8-13 LOSSIEMOUTH (supernap and multiples)
WON 2-5 STATE MAN (double up with Lossiemouth
WON (2nd 9-2) IRISH POINT (w/p 8.1 on BETDAQ)
WON 2-1 GAELIC WARRIOR (saver)

🏆 CHALLENGE UPDATE: Daqman 32, Pricewise 12 (+380.66/-320.83)

❌ CROSS-COUNTRY COURSE WATERLOGGED: The cross-country on today’s Cheltenham card has been abandoned due to waterlogging and the times of races revised. The meeting now starts at 1.45, with the Champion Chase put back half an hour to 4pm

JONBON MISSES FABIOLO CLASH

⭕ 4.00 Cheltenham (Champion Chase) STATS (see separate section of Daqman’s Stats for every race – link above):

175 EL FABIOLO (Willie Mullins) Drew clear of Jonbon to win last year’s Arkle among six chase wins in a row which hoisted his mark to 175. Only had to be nudged along to win the Dublin Chase at Leopardstown the last day.

170 JONBON withdrawn Connections who caught a cold when the Nicky Henderson Champion Hurdle ‘certainty’ Constitution Hill fell ill must have felt sick themselves to see the stable’s rising star Jeriko Du Reponet pull up in the Supreme yesterday. In fact, five out of six Henderson runners failed to finish.

Jonbon, winner of four in a row after defeat by El Fabiolo in the 2023 Arkle, may have missed the bug but you can’t bet on it, whether you are trainer or punter, so he has been withdrawn.

166 EDWARDSTONE (Alan King) Dropped a few pounds after twice beaten by Jonbon in the autumn and, though he partly restored his rating (to 166) when finishing miles clear in the Game Spirit at Newbury, there was just one other finisher, Funambule Sivola, with Boothill nine lengths down when falling two out.

164 GENTLEMAN DU MEE (Willie Mullins) Can have little or no chance, beaten by both Edwardstone (2022 Tingle Creek) and El Fabiolo (2024 Dublin Chase); nearly two years between, but progressed only 6lb.

162 CAPTAIN GUINNESS (Henry De Bromhead) Beaten by Jonbon in the Celebration Chase last April and 14 lengths and more behind El Fabiolo in the Dublin Chase this year, just in front of Gentleman Du Mee.

161 ELIXIR DE NUTZ (Joe Tizzard) Steady improver out of handicaps and Grade 3 for 15lb rise and finally got a Grade 1 by beating Jonbon a neck here in the Clarence House but all winning form for two years now is on good to soft.

158 BOOTHILL (Harry Fry) Fallen the last twice. See Edwardstone.

144 FUNAMBULE SIVOLA (Venetia Williams) Beaten consecutively by Jonbon, Boothill (twice) and Edwardstone. Has gone backwards 19lb.

SUPREME BOOST FOR BALLYBURN

⭕ 1.45 Cheltenham (Baring Bingham Novices’ Hurdle, now the Gallagher) Daqman’s last big-odds winner of this was Willoughby Court (14-1 SP), trained by Ben Pauling.

Ben’s runner today, Handstands, which Daqman took ante-post at 34.0 on BETDAQ, has more of a mountain to climb off only 136, against five for Willie Mullins in a field of eight.

The Mullins’ No 1 must be Ballyburn, who slammed yesterday’s Supreme winner, Slade Steel, seven lengths when they met at Leopardstown in February.

FILE FACT! HE’S A BIG IMPROVER

👀 IMPROVER supernap 👀

⭕ 2.30 Cheltenham (Brown Advisory Novices Chase) Fact To File and Stay Away Fay are joint–top rated off 159, which shows 12lb progress for Fay in three chases.

But Fact To File is up 16lb for his three, and possibly deserving of more now that Gaelic Warrior as won the Arkle after trailing Fact or File 17 lengths when unseating at Leopardstown in February.

BRAZIL OFFERS COULD BE NUTS

⭕ 3.15 Cheltenham (Coral Cup) LAYS LOGIC: Very hard to say what the Sa Majeste form means, beating Noble Yeats in a four-horse race, run nearly a minute and a half slow.

This is a graveyard for favourites and Willie Mullins doesn’t win handicaps at Cheltenham.

Is Brazil the hidden horse? He won the Boodles two years ago (beating yesterday’s Arkle winner, Gaelic Warrior). He was then a Grade-3 winner on the soft and took a big handicap on the Flat at the Galway Festival. He is a course winner, second run back after being gelded.

Martin Brassil got one ready for this last year with tongue-tie and cheekpieces off 137 but he was beaten a head under J J Slevin.

The tongue-tie, cheekpieces – and Slevin! – are all added to the talents of dual winner, the well-backed Built By Ballymore, rated 139.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 4.8 Built By Ballymore, 18.5 Brazil

SOLNESS TO TURN FORM AROUND

⭕ 4.50 Cheltenham (Grand Annual Challenge Cup) The winner is anywhere between 22-1 and 66-1, and the favourite usually 7-2 or 9-2.

But only two have won in 11 years and winning form during the season is a negative! So LAYS LOGIC says Libberty Hunter is a prospective loser.

Henry De Bromhead has prepared last year’s winning mare, Maskada, to do the double 7lb higher. Darragh O’Keeffe keeps the ride.

Unexpected Party drops to handicaps, down in trip, 8lb lower than when 5th in the Autumn Gold Cup here in November.

Gemirande is another down in trip and dropped into a handicap from Graded company.

Madara holds the key to the recent form, and makes Solness look a big price. They were one-three in a Listed at Leopardstown, with Solness now 10lb better off.

The runner-up, Path D’Oroux, could also go well but was pulled up on his only start at Cheltenham and hasn’t won a chase.

BETDAQ value 12 Maskada, 17 Unexpected Party, 21 Solness

⭕ 5.30 Cheltenham (Champion Bumper) DAQMAN backed Argento Boy 14-1 and Quebecois at 14-1, each to win 70 ante-post. Should have waited for BETDAQ offers (22.0 and 46.0 respectively this morning); tickle them again!
