DON’T MISS THIS INFORMATION
⭕ 2.25 Newmarket (Wood Ditton Stakes) You’ll be lucky to find the winner of this maiden but a fool not to follow it. The last six winners have all won again in a short period of time and been profitable to follow.
⭕ 3.35 Newmarket (Craven Stakes) Five of the last six winners of this trial were placed in the 2,000 Guineas without winning it!
Odd one out was Karl Burke’s Indestructible (2023) who did not pay to follow but the runner-up went on to win the Dante.
Burke today runs The Watcher, unbeaten since Christmas on AW but officially 25lb behind top-rated Wimbledon Hawkeye, who won the Royal Lodge on this course (soft).
Whether those ratings mean anything we will only find out in his race against the Godolphin pair, Aomori City and Opera Ballo, who has more reputation than form and ‘could be anything.’
New Century has been a firm-ground performer as befits his breeding and Field Of Gold was said not to appreciate the soft surface when fourth in the Lagardere.
I’m taking around 7-2 each of Wimbledon Hawkeye and Opera Ballo before the market tells us more later on.
⭕ 5.20 Newmarket Miss Information improved a stone in the second half of last season.
Her stable is bang in form; she is getting weight from the other leading contenders, and won’t mind the ground. Exchange 5.8 looks good.
NO RISK TO MULLINS PAIR..
THE BATTLE OF CHELTENHAM continued.. It’s as if two more days have been added to the festival, as Dan Skelton runs 10 there today to four for Willie Mullins, and they’re back in business again tomorrow.
After Skelton saddled winner number 164 of the season on his local course of Warwick on Monday, the £6m-plus pair in the trainers’ title battle move back to Cheltenham balanced like this:
Dan Skelton 3,113,023
Willie Mullins 3,102,994
⭕ 2.40 Cheltenham (Silver Trophy) Mullins 2, Skelton 2. That’s their toe-to-toe number of runners in a 10-horse race for a £39,865 first prize that will help decide title gold.
The 2024 trophy winner had been fifth in the Plate at the Cheltenham Festival, but Il Ridoto and Fugitif were only 12th and 15th in the same race this year.
O’Moore Park for Mullins was third in the Golden Miller, in which Moon D’Orange pulled up, the same fate suffered by Hang On In There in the Ryanair.
Classic Getaway (also Mullins) has been placed the last twice at this Grade 2 level, including success in a three-horse race over another of the stable’s Grade-2 scorers.
Skelton’s Riskintheground came back to form at the Ayr Grand National meeting last weekend but had been well beaten when Bhaloo took advantage of better ground to score at Newbury last month.
