MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL moves back to the Wankhede on Thursday as Mumbai Indians host Sunrisers Hyderabad on Betdaq Betting Exchange. This IPL has definitely turned into a top half and bottom half this season – these are two sides in that bottom half with only two wins from their six games. Things could be even worse for these two as they both won their last games; in general they have been reasonably poor and I have to say it would be a surprise if they made the playoffs at this stage. However, there’s plenty of cricket to go and from that point of view, this is a must win game.
The winner goes on to have a chance at that final playoff spot and the loser tries to avoid the wooden spoon. We’re not quite at halfway of this IPL tournament, but we are getting close now. Sunrisers Hyderabad have put in some of the worst bowling performances this season, but they have had an exceptionally high scoring ground to deal with. Their batters have been cashing in – they chased down 245/6 last time out with nine balls to spare – you don’t see that often! The batters also posted 286/6 in their first game with home advantage, but in between they have been lacklustre.
Mumbai Indians have looked a lot weaker on paper in recent years, and they have finished bottom in two of the last three IPL’s which isn’t like them. They’ve won or lost their last three games by exactly 12 runs, but it’s clear to see where their issues is. It’s in the bowling department, very similar to Hyderabad. They also need a lot more from Rohit Sharma at the top of the order. An interesting game awaits!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This will be the third game here, and we’ve had a very low scoring game and a very high scoring game so far! KKR collapsed for 116 all out in the opening game here; a rare good bowling performance for Mumbai before Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted 221/5. Mumbai scored over 200 in the chase but couldn’t get there to lose by 12 runs. Usually we see some pretty high scoring conditions here with an excellent atmosphere too. Given both sides are weak with the ball, I’d expect another high scoring game.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s hard to have a lot of faith in either side here, so this is definitely a game for small stakes. They both have very similar profiles to be honest. They have the batting talent, but the bowlers have been very poor. If I had to pick a batting line-up, I would lean towards Sunrisers Hyderabad – that top order from Mumbai Indians looks a little weak when Rohit Sharma gets out early. Obviously I’m expecting good batting conditions here so we could easily see an incredible innings from either side. However, I do feel Sunrisers Hyderabad are worth backing at 2.16 – I make this a 50/50 game.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Despite the collapse here in the opening game – ironically the same thing happened at 2024 before another high scoring game in the second game. We’ve saw the same pattern again this year. I do feel we have the conditions for a very high scoring game and with the bowling on display, I’d be happy to support either batting side when the time comes. I would only focus on looking for trades on the batting side here; the two bowling line-ups are poor in my opinion!
