DAQMAN IN FORM WITH A WINNING NAP: Daqman landed winning nap number 54 with Junior Massini (WON 1-1) at Newton Abbot last night. He’s spotted a race to win over jumps at Worcester today but first finds value on the Flat in the feature races at Salisbury.

RACING’S BIG MONEY IS STILL TO BE WON: Daqman warns that the big-money racing has only just begun and plots the big prizes in England, Ireland, France and America, starting with the Irish Derby this weekend.

£20m STILL WAITS FOR WINNERS

THEY think it’s all over. The Grand National and the Derby is behind us; Royal Ascot’s done. England as a nation knows very little about the second half of the racing year.

But the races below usually have English and Irish runners, and have a major effect on the future of the thoroughbred. Diary date with winners’ prizemoney (totalling £20m alone), and declared target horse.

⭕ Irish Derby €712k to the winner, Sunday at the Curragh; target of AUGUSTE RODIN, winner of the Epsom Derby; has so far earned £1m.

⭕ Goodwood Cup £283k: Goodwood, Tuesday, August 1

⭕ Sussex Stakes £567k: Goodwood, Wednesday August 2; target of PADDINGTON, the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes winner, and TRIPLE TIME, the Queen Anne winner.

⭕ Nassau Stakes £340k: Goodwood, Wednesday August 3; target of BLUE ROSE CEN, winner of French 1,000 Guineas and Oaks; earnings so far €925k.

⭕ Melbourne Cup £8m: Flemington, Tuesday, November 7; target of Royal Ascot winner VAUBAN; earnings to date £316k.

WHY I’LL REACH FOR THE SKY

⭕ 3.40 Salisbury today (Whitsbury Manor Handicap) Three times in the last six years the winner could have walked to the track! They were all trained Marcus Tregoning whose Whitsbury stable sends out Skysail this afternoon.

It only seems like yesterday that I was at that very yard to see Desert Orchid: I made headlines in the Guardan because I ‘signed Desert Orchid’ to write for my paper.

It’s for sure that ‘Dessie’ told you all you needed to know. As trainer David Elsworth said at the time: ‘I’m just his chauffeur, taking him down to the gallops and on to the racecourse.’ Dessie and Elzie; both legends.

Trainer Tregoning has saddled only three winners this year but Skysail is one of them, scoring impressively at another local track, Goodwood.

This is a step up in grade and the Goodwood win was on good to soft, but Skysail has also scored on a sound surface, so he is 2-4 and headed for a Goodwood handicap at the ‘Glorious’ meeting.

Two of the three Tregoning winners of this were three-year-olds, and today the consistent Helm Rock will struggle to give Skysail and three other second-season animals a stone and more.

Charlie Johnston’s grey Swift Lioness travels down from Yorkshire along with Krona in the Bibury Cup; conversely Zu Run went up to York from the south downs six weeks ago without success.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE 3.9 Skysail

WE NOW KNOW HE MET A STAR

⭕ 4.40 Salisbury (Bibury Cup) Maasai Mara picked up really well for his 1m 2f Ascot win and finished with purpose up the Epsom hill the last day.

It’s all prompted Team Gosden to try him at 1m 4f on grass this afternoon; Oisin Murphy has ridden him in three of his four starts this year and the outcome will depend on how he gets him to travel.

Krona has done the job twice at this trip on AW but is up a couple of grades here. This level is also new to Enochdhu and Raintown, while Baltic Voyage and Gozo are maidens.

But Maasai Mara encounters more than a hint of real quality in Nader King, who made all when well backed at Nottingham but was himself outrun from the start at Newbury by a maiden winner of Michael Bell’s.

We now know that winner, Burdett Road, was a Royal Ascot star in waiting, and Nader King can take this step up in his stride.

Betdaq Betting Exchange value 2.98 Maasai Mara, 6.4 Nader King

SOLO IN A BETDAQ VALUE DUO

⭕ 4.28 Worcester Solo Saxophone was 2-2 here at Worcester at about this time 12 months back, after prepping on the Flat (last of 14).

He’s done the very same – last of nine on the Flat – on his way to this hurdle.

He’s no stranger to class 2: might have won at Kelso in September but lost a shoe and finished second, giving 16lb to the winner.

Accidental Rebel looked to have a big chance in but Fergal O’Brien prefers to run Merry Berry, who wins when fresh.

Merry Berry (BETDAQ 7.6) and Solo Saxophone (6.8) are front-runners. The theory is that they get away from the field on the sound surface and, with both at decent offers, I can be at the keyboard to make any adjustments to my betting strategy towards the end of the race.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
