EMMET RYAN looks ahead to a big week of Champions League Football this week. However, before that he is just one game away from a 100% record on his weekend Premier League Bets as we wait on Manchester United against Southampton this evening. After Chelsea and West Ham both obliged on Saturday and Sunday, our resident Football tipster is just waiting for Man United to win to complete the Treble.

For Liverpool and Man City, there’s only one piece of advice that really matters this week: Just win baby.

It’s going to be a nervy night in Anfield on Tuesday, make no mistake of that. The crowd is going to get really loud but Basel are no strangers to entering hostile environments. It’s what happens on the pitch that matters and the Swiss visitors know a draw will be enough to send them through to the last 16. That puts all the pressure on Liverpool to attack early.

It’s a tough ask for a team that has managed to put together a run of results together built more around playing ugly than opening the park. It will however only take one goal and a defensive stand to get the job done so a game built around grit could get the job done. For all of their disappointments in the early part of the season, and the continued inability to adequately replace Luis Suarez, this is a team that finally looks like one ready to put in the hard yards and make a big breakthrough. Victory on Tuesday would essentially take all pressure off until after Christmas. That’s a big carrot. I like Liverpool to go after it with sharpened teeth and win at 1.8.

For Man City the odds are stacked a little more in their favour but, no matter what, they have to score away to Roma on Wednesday. A score draw would be enough to get City into the knockout stages and it’s not like this team has lacked in heroics of late. Granted, the bulk of the credit goes to Sergio Aguero but the Argentinean has stoked a fire in the men around him and the reigning EPL champions are starting to look like a side worthy of some dark horse long-term Champions League betting. For City to matter in the new year however they must get a result against a resilient Roma side. I don’t fancy the hosts to keep a clean sheet on Wednesday, which bodes well for City, but the real question is whether to take a chance on the draw or back Pellegrini’s men to take all the marbles. I like City to do it again, take them at 2.96.

Finally attention turns to Istanbul where an away win for Arsenal over Galatasaray could still secure top spot in the group for the Gunners. It would require a favour from Anderlecht at Dortmund, who have nothing to play for, and there’s a big league game ahead on Sunday for Arsenal at home to Newcastle. There’s plenty of reason to think that Arsene Wenger will accept any result and sit back but that ignores Galatasaray’s situation. Facing no shortage of financial concerns and with a three way battle in the Turkish League as a distraction, there’s little reason to fancy the home team here. I like Arsenal to get the win at 2.42.
