EUROPA LEAGUE: We preview Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first leg between ARSENAL v ATLETICO MADRID with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

8.05pm It’s a shame that this fixture wasn’t the final, as it would have been an excellent match-up. However, we get to enjoy it twice now in the semi-final with two legs, and Arsenal will need to start well tonight if they want to get through. Since Wenger announced that he is leaving at the end of the season, and fans have been fully behind the team and it would be fitting if he could end his career with a European Trophy.
We have an open market, with the match odds at the time of writing currently trading; Arsenal 2.64, Atletico Madrid 3.05 and the draw is 3.35. In the To Qualify market, Arsenal are 2.82 while Atletico Madrid are short favourites at 1.53. A positive result at home is a must for Arsenal, as they have been very poor away from home this season – however their away form has been better in Europe compared to England!
It will be very interesting to see how this game plays out. Arsenal have been banging in the goals for fun at home recently, while the Atletico rearguard is always excellent. There’s no doubt that Simeone will have his XI well drilled here and set up superbly at the back – it will be interesting to see can Arsenal find a way through. They have consistently came up short against the top sides in Europe in recent seasons.
Arsenal feel a little short at 2.64, however they do have an excellent home record. We feel that Atletico will arrive here to defend and kill the game; and just be happy to go into the second leg with everything to play for. The Draw looks good value at 3.35 – Arsenal having home advantage will bring the teams closer together and this looks like it will be a very tight affair with little between the sides.
