Most people were surprised Reading stormed past the more fancied names of Southampton and West Ham to win the Championship last term but the Royals are still the bookies favourites for relegation. That will surely change if Brian McDermott’s men can get off to a good start this Saturday against Stoke.

Reading have added the likes of Adrian Mariappa and Nicky Shorey to the squad as well as the marquee signing of Pavel Pogrebnyak. The powerful Russian striker could prove an inspired choice, having impressed when on loan at Fulham last season.

They face a Stoke side that were in woeful form at the end of last season, winning just one of their last 11 Premier League matches and none of their last nine away games. That doesn’t bode well for Tony Pulis side’s trip to Berkshire.

Reading on the other hand, have won eight and drawn one of their last nine league games at the Madjeski stadium. The first Premier League matches of the season always throw up surprises but the Royals look one of the bets of the weekend at around 2.48 on BETDAQ.
