It might surprise a few people to learn that Reading have won two and lost just one of the last four away league games against Manchester City. But the Royals are propping up the Premier League table and look doomed for the drop even though we’re not even halfway through the season.
A visit to champions Man City is hardly going to be welcomed with open arms by Brian McDermott and his men and, in reality, the best the Berkshire club can hope for at the Etihad is to avoid a drubbing.
Roberto Mancini’s side haven’t been at their vintage best this season but bounced back from derby defeat to see off Newcastle last weekend in a comprehensive 3-1 win. That suggest they are finding their range and they look impossible to oppose today.
Reading have faced more shots than any other side in the top five European league this season , with 313, while City have attempted more shots than any other Premier League side this season. If those trends continue it looks like Reading’s leaky defence is going to be in for a hard hour and a half.
The Citizens have won all 13 of the Premier League matches that Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez have started together so it will be interesting to see if he sticks with the Argentinean pair today.
