PREVIEW
Swansea are looking to complete a third successive win over Arsenal today in their third round FA Cup encounter today. A brilliant 2-0 win at the Emirates in December followed on from the 1-0 at today’s venue, the Liberty Stadium, in January 2011.
This will be the fourth FA Cup tie between Swansea and Arsenal, but the first since 1968. Swansea did win the first meeting between the sides but have since lost the last two. All matches were decided by a one goal margin
Swansea will be looking to overturn a damning statistic that has seen them progress just four times from 19 previous FA Cup ties with teams from the same division. That has also happened for the last three years.
Arsenal haven’t failed to make the fourth of the FA Cup since 1996 and, with the Premier League title surely out of their reach, having exited from the League Cup and with a tough Champions League tie against Bayern Munich top negotiate, this looks like their only chance of silverware.
Both managers are likely to make a few changes but you’d fancy a weakened Arsenal side over a weakened Swansea team, especially if Arsene Wenger has the likes of Santi Cazorla and Theo Walcott to call on.
