PREVIEW

The 2011 U.S. Open starts later today and the second Major of the year has all the makings of another classic, even without Tiger Woods. World number two, Lee Westwood, is the current favourite at around 13.0 on the outright market and a victory would secure a first Major triumph for the Englishman.

Golf fans have been handed a real treat at the tournament as it has thrown up a number of superstar groupings, with Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer’s the pick of the bunch.

The group contains the three best golfers in the world and the Europeans will be looking to make another strong statement across the Atlantic. Although Westwood has yet to win a major, he has been in terrific form this year and his game suits the tough Congressional Country Club course.

Worksop’s best-loved hero has had five top-three finishes in the Majors over the past three years. His long, straight hitting should put him in an excellent position to finally get his name engraved on a Major trophy. Westwood will certainly be pushed all the way during the first two rounds, but at around 2.51 he looks a solid bet to outperform his playing partners.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back Westwood in the 1st Round 3 Balls at around 2.51: 4 points

Wednesday’s Return: -5.00 points
