PREVIEW

Cambridge United have an excellent opportunity to draw level on points with York City in the final play-off spot if they manage to pick up all three points against Southport this evening. The U’s will need to be at their best as the visitors are currently in fourth place, five points ahead of the hosts.

Manager Jez George will be frustrated that his side have not been able to replicate their home form when on their travels, so he’ll be pleased that tonight’s clash is at Abbey Road. The U’s are unbeaten in six home league games and were convincing 2-0 winners against Braintee last time out.

Southport will need a marked improvement on their last effort where they were hammered 6-0 at home by Fleetwood. The Cod Army even had a man sent off after 32 minutes, but they were unable to make the extra man count. Micky Mellon will be reminding his side that they have performed well on the road in recent weeks, winning four of their past six.

Striker Tony Gray has already scored 14 times in the league this season and he’ll be the main threat up top for the visitors. He’ll face a strong Cambridge back four though, who have conceded only four times in their past six league games at home.

Both sides are evenly matched and given Southport’s strong showing away from home, I would recommend backing it to be level at the final whistle at around 3.5 on BETDAQ.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back the draw at around 3.5: 5 points

Wednesday’s Return: -5.00
