PREVIEW
The first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy kicks off tonight and one of the picks of the round is the clash between southern coast rivals Portsmouth and Bournemouth. The teams shared a 1-1 draw earlier in the season at Fratton Park so both managers should have a good idea of what is required to get a result tonight.

Portsmouth winger Jordan Obita was sent off for violent conduct during Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat by Oldham and starts a three-match ban. On-loan Burnley defender Kevin Long is pushing for a start having missed the game against the Latics through suspension. Former Celtic defender Josh Thompson should also be involved after his deadline-day switch to Fratton Park. Striker Luke Rodgers could be recalled as Pompey search for goals.

For the Cherries midfielder, Harry Arter comes back into the reckoning after missing the entertaining 5-3 league defeat to Sheffield United on Saturday through suspension. 40-year-old striker Steve Fletcher was rested at Bramall Lane but the veteran could come back into the team.

That 1-1 draw was the first league game between the sides since 1990 – a measure of Portsmouth’s dramatic fall from grace over the last few years – and from what we’ve seen of both sides so far this term, the pair are relatively evenly matched.

Instead of trying to call a tight game it looks better to focus on the goal markets and the over 2.5 goals at around 2.01 on BETDAQ should give us a run for our money.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back over 2.5 goals at around 2.01 on BETDAQ: 3 points

Monday: -3 points

SEPTEMBER RETURN TO DATE: -11 points
