Sunderland looked like a team already relegated when beaten 2-1 at home by West Ham – a devastating blow to their survival hopes.

They now prop up the table but the picture isn’t as bleak as it first looks. A win tonight lifts them to third from bottom, four points off safety, but with two games in hand.

So it’s no understatement to say that this is their most important game of the entire season. Time for the players to put that extra effort in and fight for survival.

Spurs have a great record against Sunderland but are hardly playing well themselves at present. Spurs have lost three of their last four league games, including a wretched effort when beaten at Liverpool last week.

A draw looks most likely.
