NO IRISH RACING ON MONDAY: SHAMROCK looks back on a day of mixed fortunes on Sunday.

MONDAY MEMO TO MYSELF: Naps can be on PLACE bets as well as win. Just learn from what happened at Cork yesterday.

I got a nice place return from Remember You (3rd 14/1 – but 5 on BETDAQ place market) yesterday but am regretting not being bold enough to have napped it. The assumption with a NAP I guess is that you should always have confidence in the win – and if you are saying place by definition it’s introducing doubt – but not necessarily. I think each case is different and as always it’s about comparing price offered v respective chance in ANY market.

The benefit of a recent run was my main angle and so it proved with both her AND the 12/1 winner An Saighdiur – they were the only two runners in the race with a recent spin just showing how important a factor that can be at the early stage of the season. In the case of An Saighdiur I just didn’t consider his second of three at Dundalk amounted to much.

I wish I stayed at Cork because Fairyhouse wasn’t much fun.

The NAP Layla Joan unseated her rider for the second successive race and Wicklow Brave ran a shocker.

We got a small place return from Le Vent D’Antan to supplement the place return from Cork.
