PREVIEW
England take on Sri Lanka in the eighth game of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy at the Oval this afternoon with the hosts needing a win to qualify for the semi-finals and Sri Lanka knowing defeat will see them return home.

The Three Lions were impressive on the weekend in a 48-run win against Australia and that victory continued an upward curve in form following back-to-back defeats at the start of the one-day series with New Zealand.

England will be further boosted by the return from injury of Graeme Swann after a back problem stopped the off-spinner from facing the Aussies.

Their opponents today lost their opener to New Zealand by a single wicket but Sri Lankan paceman Lasith Malinga, who took four wickets in his side’s narrow loss to the Kiwis, is a man captain Alastair Cook fears.

The hosts have won their last two one-day internationals versus Sri Lanka but the sides haven’t met in this format since July 2011. However, England are two places ahead of today’s rivals in the world rankings and, with home advantage, they should prove too strong.
