Three reasons to back New York

1. The Giants have been better than the Titans on both sides of the ball this season– they score more points and allow fewer points. And this game is in Tennessee, where the Titans have covered just once in their last 11 opportunities. Don’t try to get cute with this one: back the better team.

2. The New York offense is led by a two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback who has won in every situation imaginable and is growing progressively more comfortable in first-year coordinator Ben McAdoo’s offense. The Titans, meanwhile, are quarterbacked by a rookie 6th-round pick who has never won a game in the NFL. Who would you rather trust with your money?

3. Tennessee has one of the league’s worst defenses, a unit that ranks 30th in yards allowed, 31st in points allowed, and seems to be regressing, surrendering 115 combined points over the last 3 games. The Titans have now lost six consecutive games and 10 of their last 11, with their only win in that stretch coming over the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars. The Giants have at least been competitive lately, losing by 1 last week, 3 the week before, and 6 the week before that.

Three reasons to back Tennessee

1. The Titans are a young team full of players trying to make the most of their NFL opportunity, while the Giants are a veteran team that has clearly “checked out” on the season. In their last home game the Titans nearly upset the Pittsburgh Steelers before falling 27-24. New York’s last road game was a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in which they blew a 21-3 halftime lead. That pretty much sums up the current state of these two teams.

2. Eli Manning has struggled mightily in first-year coordinator Ben McAdoo’s offense, throwing 12 interceptions and averaging fewer than 245 pass yards per game this season. The Titans have a good secondary that has held 9 of the 12 quarterbacks it’s faced below their season-average passing yardage total, so Manning could be in for another long day in a season full of them.

3. The Tennessee offense has produced 21 points or more in 3 consecutive games and the Giants have a dreadful defense that ranks 29th in yards allowed and 31st against the run. During their current 7-game losing streak the Giants are surrendering 29.3 points per game, so big things are expected from Zach Mettenberger and the Titans this week.
