PREMIER LEAGUE FRIDAY: We preview Friday’s crucial Premier League game between LIVERPOOL v HUDDERSFIELD (8pm SKY) with a recommended BETDAQ bet and extended stats.

LIVERPOOL V HUDDERSFIELD

8pm Unfortunately for Liverpool fans they had to watch Manchester City go back to the top of the Premier League on Wednesday night as they beat Manchester United in Old Trafford – and games are running out for Liverpool. This game is almost a formality given how good Liverpool have been this season, and how poor Huddersfield have been. All Liverpool can do is keep winning and hope that City slip up somewhere.

As we said, this almost seems like a formality and the markets agree! The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Liverpool 1.08, Huddersfield 50.0 and the draw is 17.0. Huddersfield have been nailed to the bottom of the Premier League table for quite some time now and they look like a team who have given up. It must be hard after you know you’re going down; however Fulham have managed to win some games so it’s not the same for every side.

It’s impossible to see anything other than a comfortable Liverpool win here. The question is not will they win but by how many. Huddersfield have lost ten of their last 11 away games and they’ve failed to score in eight of those games. That obviously makes the handicap betting interesting; as it’s very hard to see Liverpool conceding – they have been rock solid at the back.

Any Other Home Win (Liverpool to score four or more and win) is trading 1.95 in the Correct Score market while Liverpool -3.5 goals is currently 2.5 on BETDAQ. Liverpool to win to Nil is 1.57 also – we really like Liverpool -3.5 goals at 2.5 which makes huge appeal. It’s hard to not see them scoring a hatful here given the way Huddersfield have been playing. They conceded four against Spurs away from home and against Leicester when they had home advantage. Liverpool are in red hot form and they can cover the handicap here while heading back to the top of the Premier League, and hoping City slip up on Sunday afternoon!

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Liverpool -3.5 goals to beat Huddersfield at 2.5.

MATCH STATS

  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 13 meetings with Huddersfield in all competitions (W10 D3), since a 0-1 loss in November 1959.
  • Huddersfield haven’t scored in any of their last eight meetings with Liverpool in all competitions (D1 L7) since a 1-1 draw at Anfield in the second division in April 1962. Chris Balderstone netted for the Terriers that day.
  • Liverpool have won four of their last five top-flight home games played on Fridays, with the exception being a 1-2 defeat against Leeds in April 2001.
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in 14 Premier League games, winning each of the last six in a row. At home, they’re 38 league games without defeat, the second longest such run in Premier League history (Chelsea, 86).
  • Liverpool have already accumulated 88 points this season, their most in a Premier League campaign. In top-flight history, only in 1987-88 (90) and 1978-79 (98, converted to 3 points/win) have they gained more in a season.
  • Huddersfield are winless in their last 11 away league games (D1 L10), failing to score in eight of those. The Terriers have lost all five of their away league games vs the current top six this season by an aggregate score of 2-19.
  • 10 of Liverpool’s last 13 Premier League goals have been scored in the second half of games. Their last six in the competition have been scored after half-time, ultimately earning the Reds six points.
  • Mohamed Salah has scored in all three of his Premier League games for Liverpool on Fridays. No player has scored more for the club in the competition on Friday than Salah (3, level with Michael Owen).
  • Huddersfield’s Karlan Grant has scored in three Premier League games for Huddersfield Town and ended on the losing side in all three – only one player has ever scored in more Premier League games for a single club and lost them all (Dean Whitehead for Sunderland, four games).
  • Liverpool’s Sadio Mane has scored nine goals in his last eight Premier League home games, having netted just five in his first nine at Anfield this season.
