PREMIER LEAGUE SATURDAY: We look ahead to Saturday’s Premier League games with extended stats and recommended BETDAQ bets.

WOLVES V LEICESTER CITY

12.30pm It’s 11th v 8th to get the weekend’s action underway as Leicester travel to Molineux to face Wolves in the early kick-off. Wolves are coming off a 3-0 defeat at The Etihad on Monday night so they will have had less time to prepare than usual. Nuno Espiríto Santo and his team managed wins over Liverpool and Spurs either side of a home defeat to Crystal Palace, so if it’s a case that they lack motivation against the less-fancied sides than this weekend could be a problem for them. Similarly, Leicester followed up a win at Goodison Park on New Year’s Day with back to back losses, including an F.A. Cup exit at the hands of Newport County. A clear winner is tough to call, but both teams are averaging a goal a game this season at both ends of the field, so we’re expecting a few more on Saturday.

MATCH STATS

  • Wolves came from 0-3 down at half-time to win 4-3 in their only previous Premier League home match against Leicester, back in October 2003.
  • Leicester won the reverse fixture 2-0 back in August and are looking to do the league double over Wolves for the first time since the 1995-96 second tier campaign.
  • Leicester have kept a clean sheet in both meetings with Wolves in all competitions this season (2-0 league, 0-0 League Cup). The last time they kept a clean sheet in three games against the same opponent in a season was in 2011-12 vs Nottingham Forest.
  • Wolves have lost five of their last seven home league games (W2) – they only lost two of their first 27 league games at Molineux under Nuno Espirito Santo (W18 D7).
  • Leicester are looking to win three consecutive away league games for the first time since April 2016.
  • Leicester have scored in 18 Premier League games this season – more than any other non ‘big six’ side in the competition.
  • Only Cardiff (15) have conceded the first goal in more Premier League games than Leicester this season (14). However, the Foxes have avoided defeat in more games when conceding the first goal in the division this season (six – W3 D3).
  • Leicester’s Jamie Vardy has failed to score in his four appearances against Wolves in all competitions. He’s only faced Hull (5) more often without finding the net for the Foxes.
  • 10 of the last 16 Premier League goals conceded by Wolves have been via set pieces (four corners, four free-kicks, two penalties).
  • Wolves’ Willy Boly was sent off in their 0-3 defeat to Man City, the 13th time they’ve received a red card in a Premier League match, winning none of those games (W0 D2 L11).

LIVERPOOL V CRYSTAL PALACE

3pm Liverpool bounced back from their F.A. Cup exit by grinding out a 1-0 win on the road at Brighton last weekend. This Saturday they return to Anfield for their first home game of 2019 facing somewhat more of a defensive crisis than before. Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out for a month, so Joel Matip is expected to get thrown straight back in having been injured himself, playing alongside Van Dijk, allowing Fabinho to fill the vacancy at right-back. Meanwhile Crystal Palace make the journey to Liverpool looking for a third away win in a row. The London side have become somewhat of a bogey team for Liverpool over recent years, but Klopp’s title chasers should have enough to kickstart 2019 in front of their fans the best way possible.

MATCH STATS

  • Liverpool have won five of their last six Premier League games against Crystal Palace, including the last three in a row. They’ve never won four consecutively against the Eagles in the top flight.
  • Crystal Palace have won three of their last four Premier League visits to Anfield to face Liverpool, though they did lose this fixture last time out in August 2017.
  • Liverpool are looking to win seven consecutive Premier League home games for the first time since January 2014.
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 31 Premier League home games – they last had a longer run in the top-flight between February 1978 and December 1980, a club record run of 63 home games without defeat.
  • Liverpool haven’t conceded more than once in any of their last 16 Premier League home games, keeping 12 clean sheets in that time (four goals conceded).
  • Crystal Palace are looking to win three consecutive away Premier League games for the first time since May/August 2015, and the first time within the same season since February 2015.
  • Crystal Palace have failed to score in six of their last seven Premier League games against sides starting the day top (W1 D1 L5), with the exception being a 2-1 win at Chelsea in April 2017.
  • Liverpool’s Sadio Mane has scored more Premier League goals against Crystal Palace than he has against any other side in the competition (6).
  • Liverpool’s Sadio Mane has scored in his last three Premier League games against Crystal Palace – he’s never scored in four in a row against an opponent before.
  • Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is currently on 48 Premier League goals (46 for Liverpool, 2 for Chelsea). He’s looking to become the first Egyptian and eighth African player overall to score 50 in the competition.

MANCHESTER UNITED V BRIGHTON

3pm Is it now time to take Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seriously? After holding on for a statement victory last Sunday against Spurs at Wembley, Man United are now six wins from six under the Norwegian and back in the hunt for top four.  The injury list has shortened, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling hoping to be involved, as well as the return of the suspended Eric Bailly. Brighton proved stiff opposition against Liverpool last week, only losing 1-0 to a Mo Salah penalty. But a trip to Old Trafford is a different game altogether, and we can only see the Solskjaer win streak extending to seven games.

MATCH STATS

  • Manchester United have never lost a home match against Brighton in all competition (W8 D2), winning the last four in a row without conceding.
  • Brighton have won their last two games against Man Utd (both in the Premier League), having one just one of their previous 18 against them in all competitions (D5 L12).
  • Manchester United are looking to score at least three goals in four consecutive home league games for the first time since September 2011.
  • Brighton have lost all eight of their Premier League away games against the ‘big six’ sides, with their only goal in those games coming at Manchester City in May 2018.
  • Manchester United are looking to secure six consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since January 2017.
  • Man Utd have kept back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League, having kept just two in their first 20 league games of 2018-19.
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to become the first ever manager to win their first six league games in charge of Manchester United.
  • Since winning 3-2 at Man City on the final day of the 2012-13 season with Norwich City, Brighton manager Chris Hughton has lost his last 14 away matches against the ‘big six’ in all competitions by an aggregate score of 3-41.
  • Man Utd’s Paul Pogba has scored twice in his last two Premier League games at Old Trafford – Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player to score at least twice in three consecutive home games for the club in the competition, doing so in November 2008.
  • Marcus Rashford could make his 150th appearance for Manchester United in all competitions in this match. He’s scored more goals than any other player for the club since his debut (40).

ARSENAL V CHELSEA

5.30pm The Saturday evening kick-off is a mouthwatering game at The Emirates as fourth place Chelsea make the short trip to fifth placed Arsenal. Despite losing to West Ham last weekend, Arsenal come into this game on a run of four straight league wins at home, a streak that includes a 4-2 victory over Spurs at the beginning of December. However, Chelsea’s away form has been very similar, winning each of their final three away league games in 2018. Chelsea will look to introduce new signing Gonzalo Higuain into the fold, but it might be one game to soon for the striker to get off the mark. With Arsenal under increasing pressure to win, we are expecting the Gunners to come away with a result.

MATCH STATS

  • Arsenal have won just one of their last 14 league games against Chelsea (D5 L8), with that win coming at the Emirates in September 2016 (3-0).
  • Chelsea are looking to do the Premier League double over Arsenal for the fifth time, after doing so in 2005-06, 2009-10, 2012-13 and 2015-16. Only Liverpool and Man Utd (5 each) have done so against the Gunners this many times in the competition.
  • Only Liverpool (13) have kept more Premier League clean sheets this season than Chelsea (10), while only Fulham (2) have kept fewer than Arsenal (3).
  • Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 12 Premier League London derbies at home (W9 D3), winning the last five in a row. Their last such defeat was in January 2016 vs Chelsea.
  • Arsenal have scored 20 goals in their seven Premier League London derby matches this season, twice as many as any other side.
  • Arsenal have lost two of their last three Premier League games, more than they had in their previous 17 in the competition (W11 D5 L1).
  • Chelsea are looking to win four consecutive Premier League away games within the same season for the first time since December 2016 (a run of six).
  • Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has kept just one clean sheet in his first 15 Premier League starts – only three goalkeepers (Gavin Ward, Julian Speroni and John Ruddy) have kept fewer in their first 15 starts in the competition (all none).
  • Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud could become the second player to score for both clubs in Premier League meetings between Arsenal and Chelsea, after Cesc Fabregas.
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been directly involved in 20 goals in 18 Premier League home games for Arsenal (15 goals, 5 assists).
  • Chelsea’s Eden Hazard has been directly involved in 199 goals in his league career (115 goals, 84 assists), with 2018-19 just the second campaign in which he’s reached double figures for both goals and assists (also in Ligue 1 in 2011-12).
  • Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (12) and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (10) are the two players whose goals have been worth the most points for their sides in the Premier League this season.
