SHAMROCK LANDS HIS 20th WINNING NAP WITH FLASHY APPROACH WON 6/4: Shamrock made it 20 winning naps from the last 33 (60%) with the debutant FLASHY APPROACH (NAP) WON 6/4 last night at Gowran Park

Feels odd, napping a newcomer, but I was delighted to see Flashy Approach win well last night.

99% of the time I prefer to go on proven form but last night I just wanted to be against long time maiden Wexford Opera and Flashy Approach looked a likely sort on paper.

That’s made it 20 winning naps from the last 33 but I’ve yet to get more than 4 in a row.

The sequence now reads:

* On missing days there was either no Irish racing OR the NAP was a non runner

It’s the start of a huge weekend at Epsom for the Irish raiders with of course Dawn Approach bidding for Derby glory on Saturday.

In the Oaks today Aidan O’Brien relies on two runners Moth and Say to try and repeat his success of last season with Was who started at 20/1.

It looks an open renewal but Secret Gesture fully deserves her place at the top of the market after her runaway 10 length success in the Lingfield Oaks Trial. The contours of Lingfield are about as close as you can get to the idiosyncratic Epsom course but it would be wise not to get too carried away with that form. The Lingfield Oaks Trial (and Derby Trial for that matter) often throw up big margin winners and it looked a weak race on the day.

I think Moth has a great chance. She finished third to Sky Lantern in the 1000 Guineas despite her lack of experience and the form took a huge boost when runner-up Just The Judge won the Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh on Sunday. She went into many peoples Oaks notebooks after that race and I really do think she’ll stay the trip well and also brings the best form to the table.

Say, is harder to quantify but stormed home by nine lengths at Cork to lose her maiden tag over this trip – however she was 1/6 and only had three rivals to beat.

She’s worthy of interest in the BETDAQ place market – currently just over 3/1.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Moth (4.00 Epsom)
PLACE: Say (4.00 Epsom)
