7/1 WINNER FOR SHAMROCK: Taglietelle (WON 7/1) was one of three recommended bets for SHAMROCK on day one of the Aintree Grand National meeting.

Taglietelle ended my day in style yesterday winning the finale at 7/1.

It went some way to making up for the nap Arctic Fire who (for my money) had the Doom Bar Aintree Hurdle at his mercy before falling at the last and handing victory on a plate to Jezki. Thankfully, Arctic Fire lives to fight another day as it looked a really nasty fall.

It ended up being a really good day for Irish trained runners. As well as Jezki and Taglietelle there was success for Clarcam in the opener (first leg of Gordon Elliott’s double) and On The Fringe who repeated his success of Cheltenham at Aintree for Enda Bolger and Nina Carberry.

The Melling Chase at 3.25 pitches Don Cossack alongside Champagne Fever for the Irish trainers. The pair fought out a thrilling finish to the Ladbrokes Ireland Kinloch Brae Chase at Thurles earlier in the season and were upsides before Champagne Fever capsized at the last.

Preference has to be for Don Cossack who was a gallant third in the Ryanair Chase despite not getting the rub of the green in the closing stages where he was hampered and made a mistake two out.

Champagne Fever looks too short in the betting. He was a last minute withdrawal at Cheltenham and the ground may well be going against him again as the sun shines down on Aintree.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Don Cossack (3.25 Aintree)
