WINNING DOUBLE FOR SHAMROCK: TWO OUT OF TWO for SHAMROCK on Thursday with his NAP Bleu Ciel Et Rouge WINNING AT 4/6 and NEXT BEST Double Speak WINNING AT 100/30.
It’s been a great week for Ireland so far at the Knavesmire with Aidan O’Brien plundering both of the Group 1’s with Australia on Wednesday and Tapestry yesterday who caused a shock by beating Taghrooda in the Yorkshire Oaks.
O’Brien relies on Cougar Mountain in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes today but the stronger Irish challenger surely lies with the remarkable Sole Power, 100/1 winner of this race in 2010 and more recently the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Caution has to be tempered though by trainer Eddie Lynam’s revelation earlier in the week that the seven-year-old missed some work and might not be spot on. You really can’t be backing a favourite in a Group 1 with that wealth warning.
The bet of the day looks to be Yes I Am at Killarney tonight in the 5.35. He certainly went into my notebook after coasting clear on debut at Dundalk when he was well backed and is clearly above average. He can defy the break to win this.
