SHAMROCK HITS THE RIGHT NOTES: With Orchestra his next best (WON 3/1) at Chester yesterday in the Vase. He ended the day though on a bad note with a poor run from the nap.

Orchestra. A headline writers dream. Ryan Moore got a great tune out…. (enough puns !!!).

In all seriousness, I was pretty taken by the performance of Orchestra – she had to be coaxed home by Moore in the end from the fast finishing Romsdal but if/when the pair meet again I would expect that form to be confirmed given the relative inexperience of Orchestra and the fact that he travelled so well through the race.

At face value, the odds of around 25 on the BETDAQ ante-post market for the Derby look very tasty given this race was won last year by Ruler Of The World who went on to success at Epsom.

The problem, of course, is that all the Ballydoyle eggs may lie with strong favourite Australia so there’s a risk he won’t be sent to Epsom but there are certainly worse 25 shots to be backing.

As good as Australia was, O’Brien’s other runner in the race, Carlo Bugatti (ridden by Joseph), ran an absolute shocker and trailed home last.

Talking about shockers, my other bet of the day (and NAP) Stirabout was most disappointing at Clonmel last night. He led (as expected) but faded tamely and dropped right out of it. The only consoling factor was that the winner – Tonton Macoute at 25/1 was impossible to find having only beaten one horse home in two previous starts.

Still, a 3/1 winner from two bets more than keeps my head above water.

Jessica Harrington had a much deserved successful Punchestown Festival and the stable can continue the good work tonight at Cork with Keppols Queen in the mares maiden hurdle at 6.20.

She made Lord Adare pull out all the stops to justify 2/5 favouritism at Limerick on her debut for which was unconsidered in the market at 25/1. The pair pulled nicely clear and with the benefit of that run Keppols Queen can go one better here at the main expense of One Cool Princess who looked useful when winning a maiden point to point flat race here at Cork.

NAP: Keppols Queen (6.20 Cork)
