SHAMROCK READS THE STARS RIGHT AT 10-1: Shamrock’s lead story yesterday was to come down on the side of Ballydoyle second string Astrology (WON 10-1). It’s in the stars, he said. It was certainly in the winners’ enclosure.

You’ve got to be ‘in like Flynn.’ The phrase is said to originate with Errol Flynn, the adventure-film actor of the 1940s and 1950s, but, when the Tramore season is on, it’s all about venturing your punts with local Co Waterford trainer, Patrick Flynn.

Day Two at Tramore has had a ‘result’ for Flynn somewhere in the history of the five events which have their renewals on the card this evening. Here’s how Flynn has been ‘in’:

* WON the first race (5.10) in 2006 with Port Jeff at 9-2.
* WON the second race (5.45) in 2010 with Scots Gaelic at 7-4
* WON the third race (6.15) in 2006 with Face The Sun at 9-1 and in 2009 with Belle Of The Lodge at 11-2
* WON the fourth race (6.50) in 2009 with Bay Swallow at 9-2
* WON the last race (8.25) in 2001 with Catch The Dragon at 8-13.

Bay Swallow (6.15) is back over the same trip as his 2009 win here. In fact, he’s scored four times from just six starts at today’s seaside track. At nearly 4-1 on Betdaq this morning, he was a nap bet.

The Flynn stable then has a dark horse in that race Bay Swallow won two years ago, the 6.50, with Catch Light stepped up in trip: 16.5 this morning has me dusting out the old wallet.

Yes, of course, Mr Clyde (5.10) has an obvious chance for the stable in the opener but are we going to bet against the Clarach form, with Nina Carberry booked to confirm the mare’s Flat supremacy over Benefit Of Porter? Tricky one, though you have got the value in Mr Clyde.

John Oxx has a stunning record at Tramore, with more than half his runners winning. So I shall take Haleniya (5.45)  for the double with Bay Swallow.

Another local trainer, Henry De Bromhead, can complete the trio through Nishay (8.25), with Esparao and Shake The Bucket consistent sorts but clearly difficult to win with.
