LEOPARDSTOWN THRILLER: the Irish Champion Stakes at 5.45 is today’s feature which kick starts a superb weekend of Irish racing.

The Irish Champion Stakes looks a potential thriller and with respect to the three bigger priced runners it’s the top half of the card where the winner is likely to come from.

It’s a racing equivalent of a Woods, Mcilroy and Mickelson three-ball. A match up between Nathaniel, Snow Fairy and, representing the home side, St Nicholas Abbey who came up against a certain Frankel at York last time and was just caught for second close home.

If there is a vulnerable horse of the trio it might just be St Nicholas Abbey who has had a relatively long season and there is certain belief that 1m 4f is his best trip.

That would leave it between the remarkable globe trotting mare Snow Queen who returned after a lengthy absence to win a Group 1, her sixth in all, at Deauville and Nathaniel.

She will be cherry ripe for this and is narrowly preferred to Nathaniel who won the Eclipse before being caught close home by Arc winner Danedream in the King George.

In the days other Group 1, the Matron Stakes at 4.40, Duntle can continue her excellent progress and account for last years winner Emulous who ran rather flat at Royal Ascot.
