FAME BUT NO GLORY: Shamrock takes on last year’s winner Fame And Glory in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan this afternoon.

Firstly, yesterday. One tip (the nap) Zabana and he was second at 6/1 having traded at around 1.6 in running. I didn’t trade out, and didn’t recommended doing so, so it was a painful experience all round.

The Vintage Crop Stakes sees the seasonal reappearance of Fame And Glory who won this year. However, it was a far weaker contest and he only got home by half a length when landing the odds 12 months ago.

A repeat win in the Ascot Gold Cup is without doubt his early season target and today he has a serious rival in the shape of the mare Unaccompanied from Dermot Weld’s yard who is match fit after a win here at Navan in April. The concession of 10lb to his younger rival might be too much today for Fame And Glory. The early market signs are also not positive on him as he has moved from odds on to odds against.

The O’Brien team should at least come into the race with a winner through Offer in the previous race, but looking at the odds it’s almost a case of ‘no offers’ about the hotpot Offer.
