PHOENIX DAY AT THE CURRAGH: Four Group races from the Curragh on Sunday, the highlight being the Phoenix Stakes at 3.50. Shamrock landed his place NAP on Saturday.

Big day of action at the Curragh today.  I was pleased to land the place NAP with Westhaven who plugged onto third yesterday. When napping in the place market that’s almost the perfect result, finding a horse that has solid enough form to get placed but reservations about it winning – and we were getting around 2/1 on the morning BETDAQ place market. It’s an market I’ll continue to consider over the coming weeks.

Cracking action from the Curragh on Sunday and in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at 3.50 eight two-year-olds go to post. The race through up a massive shock last year with 33/1 chance La Collina winning.

Aidan O’Brien saddles two of the runners (Parliament Square withdrawn) including the market leader on BETDAQ Cristoforo Columbus who was beaten by today’s second favourite Probably in the Group 2 Railway Stakes over course and distance last time out.

I don’t get the disparity in odds – there were no excuses for Cristoforo Columbus and whilst the better ground may suit him better – Probably also has winning form on better ground. I’m sticking with Probably. He has a length and three quarter advantage on their last running and I’m getting double the odds. That’s quite a tempter in my book.

The admirable Famous Name is the pick in a fascinating Royal Whip Stakes at 2.50. It should develop into a match between him and Irish Derby runner-up Born To Sea.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Probably (3.50 Curragh)
NEXT BEST: Born To Sea (2.50 Curragh)
