NAP WINS 9/4: Shamrock started Royal Ascot week in perfect style on Monday when he went onto a raiding mission to Wolverhampton and NAPPED Irish-bred Savida (WON 9/4) his only bet of the day. TODAY: Get his view on the Irish challenge at Royal Ascot and his nap at Sligo.

Before Royal Ascot, we’ll focus on the bet of the day and it doesn’t come at the Berkshire venue.

Truthwillsetufree looks the banker of the day in the 8.50 at Sligo. She finished in mid-division on debut at the Curragh and then stepped up on that effort to finish second at 33/1 to Dane Street over 10 furlongs. With further improvement likely she should be able to get off the mark in this company and at the time of writing the 2.85 on BETDAQ looks very generous indeed.

And now to the other matter of the day. Royal Ascot.

Aidan O’Brien again pits Excelebration against wonder horse Frankel in the opener and it’s hard to see any reason why, that on the fifth time they have clashed, Frankel will not make it 5-0. It’s a shame for Excelebration as in any other era he would be close to odds-on for this himself, but Aidan doesn’t have many race options apart from taking on Frankel again and lets face it £75,000 for second place is not to be sniffed at.

Aidan’s big chance of the day comes with Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Power in the St James’s Palace Stakes at 3.45. Power bounced back from an inexplicably poor effort in the Newmarket 2,000 Guineas to win at the Curragh and back in form should go really close here. He won the Coventry Stakes on the same day last season.

In this year’s Coventry Stakes Jim Bolger goes into the race with high hopes with the unbeaten Dawn Approach who won the opening two-year-old race of the season at the Curragh and has been impressive in two follow-up successes since.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Truthwillsetufree (8.50 Sligo)
NEXT BEST: Dawn Approach (4.25 Royal Ascot)
TREBLE: Power (3.45 Royal Ascot)
