🏆 World Cup 2026 🏆

🇺🇿 Uzbekistan v Colombia 🇨🇴

3am (Thursday) And so the curtain comes down on Matchday One. Uzbekistan face Colombia at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City in the early hours of Thursday morning UK time on WORLD CUP 2026 Betdaq Betting Exchange! . When the final whistle blows here, every single one of the 48 nations at this World Cup will have played once! What a venue this has been by the way, the Estadio Azteca looked absolutely immense with Mexico opening the World Cup last week. It’s raised a question of why didn’t this stadium get more fixtures – this was also the venue for Maradona’s Hand of God! Uzbekistan, making their first ever World Cup appearance as an independent nation, couldn’t have drawn a more iconic stage for their debut.

As for Colombia, they arrive in Mexico City as heavy favourites, fully aware that getting off to a winning start here puts them in prime position for what could be a defining Group K finale against Portugal in the final matchday. They could actually sneak top spot if things work out for them. Colombia are trading 1.41 with Uzbekistan 10.5 and the draw is 4.9 at the time of writing. No surprises Colombia are short here given the gulf in class between the sides. The narrative around the Estadio Azteca has been the altitude, and Uzbekistan’s best hope for a shock here seems to be Colombia getting tired late. Colombia, playing out of South America, will be more accustomed to altitude conditions than many European or Asian sides though, so I don’t see a shock here to be honest.

I do feel this one is going to be about how many goals can Colombia score rather than will they win. You have to give Uzbekistan credit for getting here. This is their first ever appearance as an independent nation, and simply being here is a landmark moment for Central Asian football. They qualified by finishing runners-up in AFC Third Round Group B behind Japan, and while the level beneath Japan in that group was not good to be honest, they can only beat what’s in front of them. FIFA made the rules! The headline name for a global audience is Abdukodir Khusanov, the 22-year-old Manchester City defender who provides some genuine Premier League pedigree to the squad.

I can’t see past Colombia here though. As I said in my Group K preview, Colombia are the team many neutrals will be backing as dark horses to go deep in this tournament. They qualified from CONMEBOL with seven wins and seven draws across 18 matches – a campaign that included taking four points from their two games against World Champions Argentina, and reaching the Copa America 2024 Final before losing to those same opponents in extra time. That is serious pedigree. Bayern Munich’s Luis Diaz is the focal point of their attack. Most football fans will know Captain James Rodriguez, now in the MLS towards the end of his career though. The concern is their defensive solidity against quality opposition, but against Uzbekistan that should not be tested.

Uzbekistan are organised enough to make Colombia work for it. But Colombia’s attacking quality is too much for them here in my opinion, I’m going to keep stakes small, but I like Colombia to cover the handicap on the way to winning. The altitude works in their favour if anything. They are trading 2.2 -1.5 goals which looks good value for a small investment in my opinion.

The Ultra Says:
One point win Colombia -1.5 goals to beat Uzbekistan at 2.2 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
