6-1 NAP AND 23-1 DOUBLE UP: Shamrock yesterday landed his nap, Nanna Maura (WON 6-1), and completed a double of more than 23-1 at Sedgefield with Baltic Pathfinder (WON 5-2) in his Daq Trio.

Is Casoran another coup? After the Lingfield gamble on 12-1 raider Sovento (won 15-8) and the Saturday night Wolverhampton odds-slide of any-priced Limpopo Tom (won 9-4), there could be a third in five days as another dark raider crosses the Irish Sea.

Neil McKnight sends Casoran (12.50) from Co Down for a maiden at Hexham and he despatches Sam Thomas the length of England for the one ride.

The mare won a Point in February and led until headed three out over 2m 4f at Fairyhouse on her hurdles debut. All bar one in this has to give her weight – seven lengths start, in fact – and 9.8 this morning, with two defectors already because of the mud, is just the sort of giveaway you find only with Betdaq layers (and a Merry Christmas to them all when I open an early bottle this afternoon).

We have two chances from the Lambe yard at 1.50 (City Of Doral) and 2.50 (Forestside), both winners at Hexham already but with City Of Doral high in the handicap and the ground seemingly against sound-surface winner Forestside this afternoon.

My own fancies at Hexham are Code Blue (2.50) and Le Roi Rouge (1.20), who seems to be transformed when he encounters a bog (or is he just a slow so-and-so?). Form figures on heavy since December 2007 are: 311130.

Code Blue returns to the scene of his heavy-ground CD success for a stable in flying form but it’s a question of what sort of tune 10lb claimer Joel Belbin can get out of Arisea, who has set up her hat-trick on a sound surface.

But if Irish-bred Arisea does cope with this ground – she won on heavy in 2007 – she is carrying 17lb less today than for a fully fledged jockey in a future event. I’ll change my usually-straight trio to mixed bets to accommodate her.

SHAMROCK’S BETS
NAP: Casoran (12.50 Hexham)
NEXT BEST: Le Roi Rouge (1.20 Hexham)
DAQ TRIO (five doubles and two trebles): Casoran (12.50 Hexham), and Le Roi Rouge (1.20 Hexham) with Code Blue and Arisea (2.50 Hexham)
