TWO OUT OF THREE INCLUDING THE NAP: With two naps up already, and two 12-1 winners, Shamrock kept up the momentum this week with two winners from three bets yesterday: Caduceus (WON 4-1) and the nap, Lambro (WON 1-2). Shamrock was against tipping another odds-on shot after the demise of St Nicholas Abbey on Monday but three non-runners left Lambro an easier task.

Punchestown: The card starts with an uncompetitive maiden hurdle for which Balnaslow is trading at a morning 1.21 on BETDAQ and the reality is Balna is not likely to be as slow as his rivals but isn’t a betting proposition.

The rest of the card is competitive but quite trappy. Hot pot Arvika Ligeonniere, for example, hasn’t been seen on a racecourse for 747 days and whilst this usually isn’t a problem for a Mullins’ in-mate do you really want to be taking morning offers of 1.76 on his chasing debut?

Of the shorter priced runners the best bet on the card could come in the flat race at the end of the card with Operating. The Jessica Harrington trained runner shaped with promise in two similar events last season and was pipped by just a nose at Naas in March. The betting suggests the debutants are nothing special and Operating looks the pick of those with form.

Chester: Ballydoyle thought so highly of Harrison’s Cave (2.35) as a stayer that he was entered in the Breeders’ Cup Marathon but didn’t act on the surface.

Because he was found to be coughing, he made a poor reappearance but that helps his price this morning; offers of 11.0 on BETDAQ.

It may be that Absolute Crackers (2.05) is flattered by last autumn’s second to Newmarket 1,000 Guineas winner, Homecoming Queen, but she is only one of three in single figures in the Cheshire Oaks market and we have to take the form at face value until these fillies sort themselves out.

If you go win and place, a place should pay for your win bet, or you can also back the Ballydoyle runner, Betterbetterbetter
