THURLES GREEN LIGHT: This afternoon’s meeting at Thurles was given the go-ahead following their morning inspection. Big fields are the order of the day on heavy ground and Shamrock’s nap runs in the opener at 2.05.

Speckled Wood can hopefully make it ‘Thurles’ time lucky this afternoon.

The mare is having her third consecutive start at Thurles, and on paper would seem to face her easiest task to date.

She made her debut here in November when third to Ally Cascade who has since gone on to compete in Grade 1 and 2 events and last time out Speckled Wood was second to another odds-on shot in Unika La Reconce who made an impressive winning debut for Willie Mullins.

I’m not sure there are any potential improvers lurking here that might trouble Speckled Wood today. The biggest danger on the BETDAQ market, Ma Belle Amie, looks exposed and although she was third in a Grade 3 at Limerick last time, you can’t really take that form figure at face value as she was beaten 87 lengths !

The rest of the card looks a minefield so we’ll stick with the nap today and return to Thurles on Thursday when the ground will be cut up and probably even more testing.
