OUR DUKE HARD TO OPPOSE: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the feature JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal this afternoon.

Our Duke already has a prominent place in the Gold Cup market and if the official ratings are to be believed the Jessica Harrington trained chaser should prove hard to beat in Down Royal’s feature jumps race.

The seven-year-old has relatively low mileage on the clock having had just the nine career starts so further improvement can’t be ruled out. This is his first start since justifying favouritism in the Irish Grand National Chase at Fairyhouse in April when he was an emphatic 14 length winner.

Road To Respect is the pick of the Gigginstown owned runners and the Noel Meade trained runner comes here seeking a four-timer. His wins have included the Grade 1 Ryanair Gold Cup Novice Chase where he beat the odds-on Yorkhill by a neck. That was over 2m 4f but he seems equally as effective over the longer trip as he proved when winning over 3m 1f at Punchestown last time out.

Outlander isn’t far behind on ratings but seems to be falling out of love with the game and we can only wait to see if the cheekpieces for the first time can renew his appetite.
