Now, the bad news.

The weather is continuing to wreak havoc and today’s card at Navan has been called off.

Turf Club press officer Cliff Noone said: “Unfortunately today’s meeting at Navan has been cancelled. They were due to inspect at 9.30am, but the situation has worsened and is due to get worse again through the morning. There is no problem with the ground, the track is fine, but they have gale force winds and it’s not safe for racing to take place.”

Tomorrow’s high-profile fixture at Punchestown is now subject to a precautionary inspection at 8am.

Today’s Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown has been battered too – not by the wind but three high profile defections. Sprinter Sacre, Simonsig and most notably the hugely talented Irish raider Un De Sceaux who surely would have had the race at his mercy?

His absence might well have opened the door for the remaining Irish raider Special Tiara who proved he could handle the unique configuration of Sandown’s fences with a comfortable six length win in the A P McCoy celebration chase here in April. Vibrato Valtat was 15 lengths behind that day. He is versatile ground wise but confidence is tempered, a little, by a subdued run last time out.
