TRIPLE GROUP ACTION: Three Group races from the Curragh on Sunday. SHAMROCK previews each one starting with the Weld Park Stakes at 2.20pm.

Three Group races from the Curragh on Sunday.

2:20 C.L. & M.F. Weld Park Stakes (Fillies’ Group 3) (2yo, Class 1, 7f, 10 runners)

Aidan O’Brien is triple handed in his attempt to win this for the third year on the bounce. Ryan Moore is onboard the better fancied Nutcracker Suite but this one was only 7th of 12 on debut at Dundalk so we are guessing about improvement of which she will need to find considerable. There’s little doubt that Eziyra has the form in the book and showed she could handle this level when a neck second to Sea Of Grace over a mile here last time out in another Group 3. She’s back over seven furlongs and is the percentage call, although vulnerable to any big improvers.

2:50 Renaissance Stakes (Group 3) (3yo+, Class 1, 6f, 9 runners)

Many of these have had busy campaigns – A Happy Prince a case in point having his 13th start of the year. He looks to have a good chance based on his short head second to Breton Rock in the seven furlong Group 2 Park Stakes at Doncaster last time out and should run well back over six furlongs. I thought Fort Del Oro looked more interesting win and place. She was a course, distance and grade fourth last time out but might be more interesting with some juice in the ground. Although last of seven here in May on yielding to soft ground – she was only beaten three lengths and that was a Group 2. I’m certainly not dismissing her chances on the ground on the basis of that.

3:25 Juddmonte Beresford Stakes (Group 2) (2yo, Class 1, 1m, 6 runners)

The trophy engraver can surely start his work early today and get ‘Aidan O’Brien’ inscribed on the silverware. He may need to wait until the race to find out with which one but with four of the six runners and bidding to win the race for the SIXTH successive year it has a very predictable outcome. Capri has improved with each start and looks very much the one. He had plenty on hand when winning a Listed race at Tipperary last time out and significantly Ryan Moore is onboard.
