TRIPLE GROUP 1 ACTION: Irish St Leger day at the Curragh. SHAMROCK previews this race and the two other Group 1 races on the card.

3:40 Moyglare Stud Stakes (Fillies’ Group 1)

It was a tough day at the office yesterday for Ryan Moore who was beaten on Churchill (8/11), Sir John Lavery (11/8), Winter (evens) and Delano Roosevelt (11/10). A dream day for the Leopardstown layers.

Will his fortunes change at the Curragh on Sunday? Moore partners Clemmie here – one of five Aidan O’Brien trained fillies in the 10 runner race.

Clemmie steps up to Group 1 after a Group 3 win at the Curragh and a Group 2 at Newmarket – but both those victories came over the shorter six furlongs.

I prefer (sorry Ryan) to stick with stable companion Magical who was a Group 2 course and distance winner last time out in the Debutante Stakes. She relished the trip and the give in the ground which she gets again today.

4:15 Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes (Group 1)

The race has been turned upside down with the news this morning that forecast odds-on favourite Gustav Klimt misses the race due to a stone bruise.

That should open the door for Beckford who was only beaten a half a length in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes here and was staying on well in the final furlong suggesting today’s extra furlong will be ideal. All three of his career runs have been here at the Curragh and with the O’Brien absentee his form stands out.

4:50 Comer Group International Irish St. Leger (Group 1)

Order Of St George. Not much more to say here, he suffered a mega 1/7 shock in this race last year when beaten 1/2 length by Wicklow Brave but that form was reversed in style over C&D last time out when Order Of St George won the trial in fine style with Wicklow Brave well held in fourth.

Torcedor may get closer over the shorter trip but he was around 10 lengths inferior to Order Of St George in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Magical (3.40 Curragh)
NEXT BEST: Beckford (4.15 Curragh)
TREBLE: ABOVE TWO WITH Order Of St George (4.50 Curragh)
