THREE GRADE 2 RACES IN A ROW: SHAMROCK previews each of the Grade 2 races at Naas this afternoon. Will it be another benefit day for Willie Mullins ?
No joy yesterday – picked the wrong Willie Mullins horse in the opener and then was beaten by Willie Mullins in the Bobbyjo Chase 🙁
Three Grade 2 races on the card at Naas but sadly contested by just 12 runners.
2:50 Woodlands Park 100 Club Nas Na Riogh Novice Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 3 runners)
This looks straightforward for Mullins with Mozoltov who is rated 16lb better than chief rival Folsom Blue on official ratings. Mozoltov’s only defeat over obstacles came last time out at Leopardstown in the Grade 1 Arkle where he was 13 lengths behind Trifolium in third but this is back to Grade 2 and a very soft Grade 2 at that.
3:25 PP Shops Better Value Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 6 runners)
The market says a 1-2 for Willie Mullins with BETDAQ just favouring City Slicker (A P McCoy) over Vicky De L’Oasis (Ruby Walsh). The natural play would be to try the place market on a value alternative but we’re snookered with that angle with there just being the two places up for grabs. At the prices, I have to prefer Vicky De L’Oasis who was second in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse last time out. It’s slightly surprising to see City Slicker dropped back in trip again after seemingly appreciating the extra half mile when winning at Punchestown.
4:00 PP Your Local Betting Shop Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m, 3 runners)
Just the three runners and it could get tactical. There’s no denying Twinlight has a great chance but only has 5lb and 3lb in hand of his rivals at today’s weights, so on that basis the 1.56 looks skinny and I’m laying.
