5/1 WINNER: SHAMROCK landed a 5/1 WINNER from three bets on Saturday and now looks ahead to the Gladness Stakes at Naas this afternoon.

Mixed fortunes from the three selections yesterday.

First the good news … Hydrangea WON 5/1 in the 1,000 Guineas Trial – just getting the better of stable companion Winter by a head.

Sadly though the recommended LAY also won 🙁 That was Orderofthegarter who put in another impressive victory – I though he wouldn’t be as effective on the faster ground but that theory quickly went out the window. In the Ballysax, the NAP Yucatan was only beaten a length into third but never looked like winning in a renewal that looks unlikely to throw up the Derby winner again.

A big day of racing at Naas today and the feature is the Gladness Stakes, a Group 3 over seven furlongs.

It’s pretty hard to look beyond Alice Springs who is a triple Group 1 winner and well clear on the official figures. The bulk of her form has been on faster ground but there are no alarm bells in terms of the slower surface today which will have probably dried out further by race time.

The globetrotting Gordon Lord Byron has the benefit of a recent spin at Dundalk but he seemed a little below par during his Meydan trip.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Alice Springs (3.30 Naas)
