SHAMROCK CONTINUES TO OPPOSE AIDAN O’BRIEN: He heads to Tipperary tonight for the nap on Thursday – and again takes on an Aidan O’Brien trained favourite at Newmarket.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the O’Brien yard is not running to anywhere near normal service at the moment and as a punter that represents an opportunity to step in and capitalise.

His four runners at Dundalk last night were all soundly beaten and as I said in a previous column, it’s not just that the winners aren’t flowing it’s actually more a case of how poorly some of his runners are finishing, which I think is the more pertinent point. If they were being narrowly beaten then that wouldn’t be a case of the stable being out of form, more being unlucky.

In the circumstances, it will be interesting to see how O’Brien’s Johann Strauss runs at Newmarket in the 2.55. He has a clear edge on the form book but I can’t be backing him in view of current stable form.

I’m also opposing O’Brien’s John Constable in the 7.05. I prefer the chances of hat-trick seeking Elegant Peace. The Dermot Weld trained filly bolted home at Cork last time and can notch up another win in the soft ground she loves.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Elegant Peacce (7.05 Tipperary)
LAY: Johann Strauss (2.55 Newmarket)
