11/4 WINNING NAP: SHAMROCK struck at Punchestown on Wednesday when his NAP and only bet of the day Mr Diablo WON AT 11/4.
Nice to get an 11/4 winning NAP. Even nicer to get an odds-on shot beaten. Mr Diablo took up the running at the last flight and stayed on to pip the 8/13 favourite Wrath Of Titans by half a length at the line.
I’ll be looking at the action at Santa Anita on Friday and Saturday but the massive news yesterday was that defending champion Magician has been ruled out of his repeat bid in the Breeders’ Cup Turf by trainer Aidan O’Brien.
Quoted on BloodHorse.com, O’Brien said: “It’s very disappointing. We were looking forward to him, really, we thought he was coming back to where he was for the Breeders’ Cup here last year. Just when he came out for his trot, he was acutely lame.”
Clonmel stage a seven race card on Thursday.
The door should finally open for Louise Royale in the opener. She has finished second in both her recent starts – at Listowel and Tipperary last time where she ran particularly well to finish second in a big field to the odds on Morning Run from the Willie Mullins yard. She pulled 22 lengths clear of the third horse and a repetition of that effort should easily prove good enough.
