THURLES BANKER: SHAMROCK naps at Thurles this afternoon and also has news on Annie Power ahead of Cheltenham.

Two maiden hurdles on the Thurles card this afternoon and there are odds-on shots in both of them.

Road To Respect looks a solid bet in the 2m 6f Cashel Maiden Hurdle at 3.50. The five-year-old has been placed in all three of his hurdle races in events that frankly looked a lot smarter than today’s.

He is a confirmed front runner who could prove hard to peg back in this company. Main danger is likely to come from Sizinguptheamazon who was a good second at Fairyhouse last time out.

Meanwhile, it looks as though Annie Power will now head straight to Cheltenham next month.

Patrick Mullins, the trainer’s son and assistant, said: “Annie is 100 per cent. Ruby (Walsh) rode her work (Thursday morning) and was very happy with her. I think it looks like she’ll probably go straight to Cheltenham. I think time would be running out to get a run into her. That’s not 100 per cent confirmed, but I would imagine she’ll go straight to Cheltenham.”

Annie Power is trading around 1.7 for the Mares Hurdle on the opening day – one of four Willie Mullins trained short priced favourites on the day !!!
